love my car ...Then a few months ago the abs traction and brake light started coming on. And then coming on and I can hear a sound from my brakes when I press my gas pedal to go, which at that point its feels like every thing wants to lock up for a few seconds , if I let off the gas pedal instantly it stops the stall feeling, which is so dangerous in traffic. Also the break paddle often feels like it wants to come back up when I press it ,also with a sound. with over a hundred fifty three k miles its in really good condition other than oil leak and brake problem/////////////////////Sorry I forgot to mention I had it in tire and brake shop for two and a half days they couldn't find the problem. so where do all of go from here?

I have a 2003 Impala. Last year I started having problems with the traction light coming on and also the ABS coming on. I took it to the motor pool (military base) and they put a computer on it and said the right front sensor was bad. I bought a new hub assembly. and replaced it. The problem went away for about a year. Now I have the same problem again. I changed the right front hub assembly again and now 6 weeks later, I am having the same problem. Please help.

Update from Jun 4, 2012: It has been about 2 weeks now since I disconnected, cleaned the connections with contact cleaner and reconnected right wheel hub assy. sensor wire. I put three wire ties on the connection to make sure the connection was tight. So far I have not had a traction light or ABS light come on during the past two weeks. Someone e-mailed me that the two wires have a flex break and need to be replaced with small gauge flexable stranded wire. I did the simple thing first and it seems to be working. I am the proud owner of American Made Chevrolets. I have owned several Chevys over the past twenty years including a 1987 Camaro, 1996 Monte Carlo, 2000 Silverado HD and currently 2003 Impala. I have never had any major service issues with my Chevrolets which is the reason I keep buying them versus foreign automobiles.

I am writing GM to inquire an issue that concerns me with my 2003 Impala. For the past 2 months for some strange reason the “traction control system” activates or the “service traction control” lights goes off for no known reason. Likewise the ABS system activates while driving during ideal road conditions (not wet and level roads). This is sporadic and may go several days or even a week before it activates again.

I often check various recall websites to ensure our automobiles are safe and have not come across any for this issue. However, when I conduct other web searches I have come across literally hundreds of customers with the same vehicle that have the same issues. The majority of customers have paid very excessive repair bills at GM dealers and other repair facilities and they still have the problem after spending thousands of dollars. I don’t wish to go down that path. Therefore, I am writing you to better understand the issue and what can be done to remedy this issue. The safety and security of my family is my main concern, the reputation of GM vehicles is the second and finally excessive/unnecessary repair costs.

I have had no issues with this vehicle to date outside of the aforementioned. This vehicle currently has 90K miles and has been meticulously maintained. I have all maintenance records for the Impala and absolutely love this car! My sister also has the same car but has not had any issue with hers outside of the steering column recall back in 2008.

Please respond with additional details regarding this service problem and provide advice on how to remedy this issue to ensure the safety and satisfaction of my family. I thank you in advance for your quick response.

I purchased a 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS back in 2005 for $13,995.00. It had 60,000km on it when I got it and it now has 160,000km. Ever since February this year (about 140,000km on car) my traction control and ABS will engage while turning on dry roads as well as the lights for the traction control/ABS coming on. I thought that it may have been the right front bearing, as the trac/ABS wire had slight corrosion on it. I replaced the bearing and the wire to see if that would fix the problem. It did not. I have had it to a mechanic several times about this, and once they find a solution to my problem, a new problem pops up causing it to do the same thing. The mechanic put it on their computer to run a diagnostic on it and found the right front speed censor was faulty. I replaced the bearing with the speed censor and it stopped the problem for a day or so. It then started to do the exact same problem again. I brought it back and they said it needed to have the codes cleared. They cleared the codes but it is still happening. Luckily the mechanic is a close friend of mine and I haven't had to pay for the visits. I am getting so frustrated with this problem I have contemplated just disconnecting the trac/ABS wires completely.

Also I was talking to some other people who also had GM vehicles and they are experiencing the exact same problem. One of the people got in an accident because they could not stop the vehicle quickly enough (since ABS kicked on)

Has any one else actually ever been able to find a solution to this? I see lots of different people on different sites saying they have the same problem, but so far I have not saw a solution. Any help is appreciated. GM really needs to do a recall on this as this is a safety issue.
