My fan quit blowing Friday morning since I live in ND and I had to be at work at 6 am my windows were fogged.It didn't work on the way to work or home or while I ran several errands it did mysteriously start to work that evening. It worked part of Sat and quit again I read several things online and Sunday evening I hit the dash and it started working. Quit working again Monday morning and I took it to the shop. I explained about the intermittent fan, hitting the dash and the solution on replacing the hotwire. They contacted my husband today and told him that the blower motor was out and needed to be replaced. Since my husband works out of town he hates me to have issues with my car. I will be picking it up tomorrow and we will see. Somehow from what I've read, I doubt it.

Blower motor would stop working sometimes. It seemed like when I would wash the car at the local auto wash is when it would quit but it would always come back on after an hour or so. Last Sunday i did the same thing (wash the car) but this time it never came back on. I had the resistor replaced but did NOT fix the problem. I live in NE Ohio and it's cold!! Any advice would be helpful. I'm $128.00 in the hole for this and I don't want to go much deeper.

THE fan for the AC unit would work intermittently then before I could get it repaired the running lights would not come on I was in California at the time and took it to a shop that was recommended to me ,it took two hours to find out the problem.they replaced the ignition switch, which was a problem with the impala ,they said ,also they replaced the multiple circuit box at the base of the steering column This cost$1150
Everything worked well until I got back to Florida when the AC fan went out again ,this time it only cost me $ 350.00 they said it was a dead spot on the armature

So though we've had problems with the heater not working at all during the winter we'd had no complaints about the AC until this year. All of a sudden the blower motor isn't working, unless you pound the crap out of the dash and after a while that didn't even work. This car is a total piece of crap.
Update from Sep 22, 2010: Traded the car in yesterday, thank God!

Heater blower continues to turn on and off. Mechanic told me I needed a new control unit. After 3 attempts, the same problem exists. I don't know much about cars, but I messed around with the wire harness connecting the blower to the control unit. I think I have isolated the problem to a faulty wire connection. I'm sure this isn't that expensive and I don't know if I can just replace the wire harness. It looks as tough it may be hardwired to the unit. However, I don't know how to take the front panel off to see so I can replace it. I have had many problems with this vehicle. They are extremely annoying and are taking a tole on my pocket book.

The blower motor would stop working and you could slap the dash and it would come back on. Finally it just went out and would not come back. I replaced all the fuses and relays to no avail, and even went so far as to buy a used blower from a junkyard which didn't fix it. I finally had to run a 12v bypass to get my heat & AC back.

The first shop I took the car to said most likely it was the blower motor. Dealership said it was a module($240.00). The next time it was probably another module for who knows how much. My Tech checked it all out and determined that it was the long hot wire(red) and he has bypassed it and all works well. He determined that the open was under the dash and decided it would be easier to bypass the harness with a new hot.

This can be dangerous situation during rain storm because of the defroster not clearing the windshield; not to mention the discomfort of the extreme heat or cold.. My tech is checking out the hot wire from the fuse block and all junctions to the blower. He thinks there is an open somewhere. There is another intermittent problem with this '04 Impala, the turn signals quit intermittently; however this hasn't happened lately. I read in another forum that this could be repaired by replacing the hazard flasher switch on the instr. panel.

Hit a bump in road with panel air (no A/C on) or with AC on. Even with blower fan turned up to max, the fan quickly ceases to operate. The a/c and fan blower motor has stayed off, overnight, even when parked. The lights and buttons all work on the control module (recirculated air/fresh air; a/c and the rwd all come on when pressed).
Dealer thinks it's a bad control module, to the tune of $240 for part before adding the labor.
We've checked and double checked the fuses, fusable link in the engine compartment that controls the blower motor, and the darn thing still intermittently operates when it wants to.
I am beginning to believe that this part/system is becoming "possessed" by unclean spirits or something.

Blower motor made squealing sounds, off and on for about 2 months, mainly at low blower speeds. Finally stopped working all together. Took the fuse box cover off on the passenger side dash and the fuses were good so I replaced it and had to "slap" it to get it seated and the blower came on. Failed again on the nest start up so I removed the passenger side kick panel (easy) and tapped the bottom of the blower---started right up (with the key on). Blower motor cost about $80.00 at Autozone, but easy to replace with only 1 plug-in connection and 3 screws holding it on. Might need a couple of small extensions to get to the screws. You can also see the resistor that controls the fan speed after you take off the kick panel, but on my car it seemed fine (it's also about $80.00) , I'd replace the blower motor first, since they run continuously whenever the ignition is on. At least it worked on my car and didn't have to pay $1500.00 to a dealer to replace 1/2 of the electronics!
