Impala LS 3.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

Speedometer in Impala is not working properly. Incorrect readings, however the odometer is still accurate. Took to dealer and was told that no recall exists and so the frustration continues. I refuse to repair this on my own this is and should be a safety concern. All those experiencing these problems need to file complaints with the NTSB!! Lets get a recall on these speedometer clusters.

The Speedometer is registering 95 when I am going only 65. This is the second time this has happended and a couple of times it has not worked at all! What the heck is going on? Fix the problem or stop selling this malfunctioned product. You also need to fix this problem for those of us that have already spent our hard earned money on!

Same issues as many others, first the temp gauge went wacky and stopped working, then the speedometer did the same, now the flippin gas gauge is wigging out!!!! I can fill it up and it will register full, then maybe 1/2 then, 3/4 or maybe almost on E. My husband drives this car most days to work over 100 miles one way, and it's proving to be a huge pain in the ASS!! His GPS helps with speedo problem, but not the other two. Real bummer to know that it was a recall on trucks but not the Impala. We have been loyal GM customers for over 30 years, never had this amount of issues before, but this sure does stink!!!!

Impala LS 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

The instrument panel is malfunctioning. First, the tachometer stopped working at all, now the speedometer indicates erroneous speeds. It shows that I am driving very fast when I'm actually much slower than the rest of the traffic. When parked, it shows 15-20 MPH. It's very unsafe to drive without knowing your real speed, especially on long trips on the highway. It looks like it's going to be expensive to have the problem fixed.

Considering the number of similar complaints on NHTSA website, GM should issue a recall. I hope somebody from GM is reading these complaints and decide to do the right thing to reduce the negative publicity. I'm not going to buy another GM car.

Impala 3.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 111,000 miles

I bought this car in 2004 with 2miles on it. It has been very reliable till this day i have not tuned it up or replaced any major componet. Every year i flush transfluid, coolant system, change oil every 3000 to 4000 miles, even pulled a 2000lb ski boat with it great car. Do have one problem the fuel gauge will go haywire from time to time but will correct it self with in a week go figure. Also my security lite for passlock will also come on while driving and once in awhile she won't start due to the passlock fault also a pain. any answers to this prolem would be helpful thanx.

Impala V6

First the temperature gauge went haywire. I thought my car was overheating even though I had only been driving 5 minutes. Learned to live with that issue. Now the speedometer doesn't work. I have to be careful how fast I'm driving so i don't get pulled over. My mechanic estimated it would cost $700 to fix. don't have the funds right now.

Impala 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

I have had 1994 Nissan Altima with over 100,000 miles on it. I never had a problem with an electronic cluster. All i needed to do with this car was change the engine oil periodically and buy new tires. My chevy impala is only 6 years old and I have had to change the electronic cluster panel among a host of other things.

I doubt I will buy another American car.

Impala

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

One day my speedometer just stopped working. I freaked out at the time but I was about an hour away from home at a friends house. When I was on my way home it started working again. Since then, every time I was getting close to when I needed to change my oil it would start messing up again except it would work but in random places. For example, When I was not moving (at 0) the speedometer would read at like 80 mph and when I accelerated the speedometer would work like normal but show the wrong numbers. For a while I had to do math when I would drive because I would still be able to figure out my speed. I finally got a GPS and decided not to worry about it. Now, about a year later, on top of my gas gauge, now the fuel gauge and temperature gauge are acting like the speedometer did. I haven't gotten it fixed yet because I new it would cost a lot of money, which I don't have at the moment. Now I have to hope that my car doesn't heat up becuase I won't know, and I only know when the gas is low if my gas light comes on. Talk about a hassle! I didn't think this was a common problem though. I thought this was just my luck! As soon as I am done paying off my lease which will be here soon I am sooo getting a different car because all these complaints I'm finding make me wonder what is going to happen next! GM should have seriously recalled this issue because it is definitely a safety hazard and a common problem! What a waste!

Impala L S 3.8L

I've been having the same problems with my gauges as every one else.I am in the automotive business with access to the best mechanics in the business. The best way to solve the problem is to replace the cluster. People often ask me what make of car they should purchase.I always recommended Chevy. It breaks my heart to no longer be able to say this any longer. The electronics are not dependable. Probably made in China. G.M. should hold themselves responsible for making these repairs on the Impala. The Chevy trucks have the same problem and are being warrantied. Why not the Impala???

Impala V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,840 miles

I have been reading hundreds of complaints related to Chevrolet models and specifically impalas about gauges malfunctioning. I too have problems with my 2004 impala gauges malfunctioning and I don't know what to do. I bought this car used back in May 09, from a private seller, who works at the GM plant here. I started having gauge issues after I took it on the freeway and used the cruise control. Maybe this was a coincidence, but after using the cruise my MPH gauge, gas gauge and temp gauge went haywire.

Ever since then, specifically my MPH gauge will randomly read that I'm going slower than what I know I'm going, usually on the freeway too. After shutting off the car and turning it back on it usually corrects itself, but this occurs at random times.

The other issue is that a few weeks ago after filling up, My gas gauge is permanently broken! It has been stuck at the floating position at the very bottom of the gauge (under empty and full). This is such a pain because I can't read how much gas I have and I have to wait for the low fuel light to come on. I cant afford hundreds of dollars and obviously with 116,000 miles and no warranty I'll have to pay out of pocket. Does anyone have any ideas if this is the instrument cluster panel? Or what I can do?

Impala

I just bought the car used and as I'm driving it home FROM THE DEALER my temp gauge goes up really high. At first I'm wondering if they didn't fill up the water/coolant, but then I thought this was suspicious, so I pulled over to turn off and on the car, and the gauge went WAY past where it's supposed to, as if my car was 900 degrees or something. When I got home, I looked it up online and found many people complaining about the gauges going crazy. This isn't fair.. Why don't they place recalls immediately when people report these problems?

Impala SS 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,500 miles

Every gauge on the instrument cluster now gives out. Once the car heats up to a certain amount, all the gauges stop working and drop, sometimes slowly. As the speedo goes out sometimes it creeps down as i let go of the gas, so when i am on the highway and not letting go, i can speed up to 95 (and i have) and not even notice because it still says 70! Very very annoying issue which i did nothing to cause.

I FEEL I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN SO MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. NEXT TIME I WILL BUY A FORD. I HAVE A 95 FORD EXPLORER AND NO MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH IT SO FAR. (THANK GOD) I'VE HAD IT FOR A LONG TIME NOW. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH SAFECAR ALREADY NOTHING DONE SO FAR. I'M SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS CAR!!

I have been an avid GM owner and have never come across a problem like this, Bad motors that drive the gauges and can't not be serviced individually. You have to replace the whole cluster. Since I own a Limited Edition Indy 500 car I wonder if they can get a cluster that still has the Limited edition inlay for the gauges?
