After my speedo went crazy my tacho is now indicating 12000RPM such a B pain in the ass... I have no speedo & no tacho...Thankfully I have my GPS

TACHOMETER!!!!!!! Has gone nuts! It hangs straight down, or sometimes bounces around the 7.
Has anyone heard of a solution for this problem????
I would appreciate any suggestions at this point.

Tach went out. Out of warranty also. Costly to repair. Looking for less expensive options.

Same as speedometer, at idle will show 7,000 rpm or nothing. Had mechanic look at it, he stated dash computer, replaced and did not fix. He is a good guy and didn't charge me anything. He also stated that even if it did work, his information is that it only works for 3 or 4 months.

Can't believe GM hasn't issued a recall for this yet. Impala SS with a speedometer that doesn't work at 47000 miles is a safety issue in my opinion. Paying 500 bucks every 50000 miles to GM and the dealer what a great deal for them! I'm buying a Ford or Honda next time have had nothing but trouble with Chevrolet.

Like the folks ranting about the speedometer malfunctioning, I am experiencing the same issue, only it appears to be limited to my tachometer. First time I noticed it, I was driving around 50 MPH and noticed my RPM's around 4000. I quickly looked to make sure I was in Drive and not locked in a lower gear - I was in Drive and the engine wasn't racing.
When I parked the car, idle RPM was showing around 3000 but there was no way it was running that fast. Turned the car off and the tach stayed there. Turned the key on, and it dropped around 500 RPM's. Repeating this on/off exercise finally dropped it back to zero.
This has now been repeating regularly - sometimes it's reading high by a couple 1000 RPMs, sometimes it reads low (today I was driving 45 at 0 RPM!.
I'm concerned this will start to affect other instruments in the cluster, and I'm also a bit shocked to see the cluster replacement cost at ~$500 (warranty is over, of course).
I have seen a couple repair shops advertised on the web - even on eBay - cost around $150-200. Being a little handy, I will take a look at it myself first, then pursue a repair instead of a $500 replacement, assuming I can't fix it.

My speedometer and tach go haywire one minute and the next it's OK. Nice way to get a speeding ticket. I have gone to the dealership and they say it would be more than $500 to fix because the whole "cluster" will need to be replaced! It is also not covered under my extended warranty. I called Chevrolet and they said that I must make another appointment with the dealership to make an official diagnosis and "see what they can do". I did tell them that I have read several complaints regarding this problem and they said they are not aware of it. HAH! I am hoping that there is a way that we can force them to recall this mess and fix it!!!!! Any takers? I don't know how to go about forcing this issue. The phone number for Chevrolet is 1-800-222-1020. Maybe if more people complain, they'll fix it.

The whole dashboard needs to be replaced to fix tachometer problem. The car can run without tachometer. What pisses me off, is that the car can't even run 100K miles without any problem. Good buy Chevy, I will not piss my money on you again.

Damn Tach goes on and off usually goes nutz whenever i stop at a light or bounces sporadically. It can be a pain in the ass when you cant hear the car running and you want to pull out of a driveway but are not sure if your cars still operable... GDamnit!

Poor quality instrument cluster, just check on Google. There are repair services as mention on this site, or you can purchase the parts yourself and rebuild. General Motors wants you to go to a dealer and get an hour's worth of diagnostic work done on your dime. Just as well get it repaired with an outside source, and get a better quality product.
Also there are videos on YouTube on how to make the repairs and removal and installation of the instrument cluster..
