Sometimes when we turn the key the car will not start - not so much as a click. If I put the key in the on position and jump the starter with a bar, the engine will start. It will run for 4 seconds and stop. I can do that repeatedly and it will not continue running. If I wait five to ten minutes afterwards with the key off, the car may start normally. If not we have to repeat procedure. This problem started about a year ago. Tried new battery and had starter checked. It is occurring about every ten days or less. There is no correlation to weather - short trips - long trips. We tried computer readouts and it indicated "fuel temperature" but it can happen at 30 C above or below.
