Have been purchasing GM's for most of my life. I am done. Most recently my transmission on my 2004 LS Impala started slipping, but then one day I turned around thinking someone had hit me from behind. Now it is doing this regularly, and of course I am out of warranty. Foreign vehicles tend to hit about 200K miles. We can't make a car that is 50% that good since my tranny starting going when I had about 81K. I so was looking forward to purchasing a new Camaro but I have changed my mind and am going to go foreign for the first time in my life.

This is not the only problem with the vehicle, just the worse. And I take care of my vehicles obsesively.

In 2004 purchased a new Chevy Impala with no mileage. Problems with the car about 7 to 8 months into the loan . Starting off with repairs to power window motors and wiper blade motor . They were all covered under the warranty. Three years and 50 to 52,000 miles the transmission started to slip and shift hard. After several and I mean several attempts to repair the problem at about 56.000 miles the dealership agreed to put a new transmission in that was covered under extended warranty. Now 3 years later, with mileage at about 109,000 , and with the replacement transmission from the year 2007 the problem is back. I've made my first appointment with no success,Failed problem ,not fixed. Slipping and shifting hard. My next step is a no brainer, I will go to the Attorney General and then to an Attorney. I no longer have a warranty coverage and cannot afford $3700 + for a new transmission. I know what I went through in 2007. It was endless trips to the dealership complaining and this is going to be a similar situation.My parents also own a 2005 Chevy impala with 42.000+ on it and just starting to experience transmission problems we Will not purchase a Chevy Impala again. Look for my next posting. It will explain why. I find it impossible to have two different year Impala's a 2004 and a 2005 to have transmission problems, I, Now the replacement transmission from 2004 in also my parents 2005 with 42.000+, You got to be kidding me!

First, six months ago the speedometer broke. That cost $600 to replace the instrument cluster. While it was at the dealer, they recommended flushing the transmission and radiator, so I had them do it. Now when the car has run for a while the transmission slips when starting out in first. I am going to trade this POS off. This was the top of the line Impala, with a $30,000 sticker, leather interior, and all of the options short of the SS package. I have religiously done maintenance to this car. It is falling apart with 90,000 miles on it. I now understand why GM went bankrupt. I have a 1990 Caprice that still runs like a top. Back then GM could make a car, but when they cheapened the manufacturing process, the quality went away. Hello Nissan, Honda, and Toyota.

Noticed a slight vibration while driving and hard shifting from "first" to "second" and thought is was just rough road. This before the warranty ran out. Shut off car at destination, and when I left again ,everything was fine, so thought "Yup rough road".

Then the cluster went. I mentioned to them this was happening before cluster problem, they checked and "everything was fine".

After they fixed the cluster the problem got worse and when I took it back in that was when they said"Oh!! you have transmission problems" Ya just 3 months after expring warranty as the 3 years was up. This is a $1500 touch to fix. Not done yet, just driving different for now. Pretty sick, no longer a GM fan. Almost $3000 repairs in just over 3 years and the warranty was only 3 years. NOT A HAPPY MAMA!!

If you are thinking about buying an Impala, run run as fast as you can. This car only has 58,000 miles and the transmission is junk. I don't understand how a car that is only 4 years old can already be a piece of junk. My sister has a 2003 and is having the same problems. The transmission in these cars are complete junk. They slip constantly and Chevy will not do anything about it because of course it is not under warranty anymore. I am going to sell the POS; I have purchased a Honda and will never buy a Chevy car again. When I go to buy something new it will be a foreign car. NO WONDER AMERICAN AUTO MAKERS ARE GOING UNDER! LET THEM... THEY ARE ONLY MAKING JUNK ANYWAYS!

Since I've read so many other complaints about this transmission problem, should these cars be on a recall list somewhere that GM repairs at their expense? I mean come on! I don't have $2,000 just laying around. My husband is a wounded warrior soldier who's 100% disabled having been injured in the line of duty. We just don't have money like that laying around. I absolutely love the car. I love the performance and the handling on the road, but this came out of nowhere and has really disappointed me, especially when I was determined to buy American made.

First time to the dealership, they said something was collapsed in the steering column... some type of safety feature. Second time, I was told by the mechanic that it is the way I drive. Third time, after telling them to drive the car like it was their car and they were making payments on it, they called to tell me that I was correct in assuming it was a transmission problem. The "inspector" from the warranty division came to inspect my car and approve the repairs and he backed out of the garage bay and knocked my passenger side mirror off of the car. Okay folks, what should I do?

This may seem i'm repeating what has already been said, but it's driving me crazy. First off I bought the car in Aug of 07. I feel in love with it, I thought it was best riding and driving car i had drove in a long time. Now thats saying alot considering we had just totaled a Toyota Camry the same year. The problems didn't take long before they started, first off the temp gauge started going crazy, then the speedometer started the same crap. So i thought no big deal yeah it was expensive but i can deal with it for now. So, I continued taking great care of my car, regular oil changes, tune ups, and keeping it clean. I had the oil changed the last time and I was informed that the transmission fluid was black and it needed changing. So I made the appointment to take it in and have it taken care of, and the was the worst mistake I could have made. Only hours after having it changed, me and my hubby went to back up and the transmissions slipped. Needless to say we both had a few chosen words to say. Well the problem has gotten worse, it sometimes slips when i go to take off, you can hear a whine while driving, and reverse...we try not to even to back up....only when it is absolutely necessary. I went back to GM because I thought they had actually made a good car....boy i was wrong....I'm going back to Toyota.

I am very disappointed to be experiencing this problem so soon. I have been having weird problems for over 7 or 8 months with a jerking when start to accelerate from a stopping point but not bad to complain about. I had it check out and at that time it would not do it. I had a diagnostic test done and every was fine. Now 9 months later the transmission is slipping. No noise but just hesitation when accelerating. Took the car to AMMCO Transmission and they say the transmission is bad (slipping) and recommend to have it rebuild. I am now in the processes of trying to have this repair done as cheap as possible. This sucks alot.
