I maintain my 2005 Impala. The oil is changed every 3,000 miles and yet at 76,000 miles the car started burning oil. My mechanic says this is normal for the Impala - I don't believe it. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a recall? What is the fix?

I have not had any issues behind this problem as of yet but according to the mechanic that changes my oil this could cause problems with the engine, yet another problem that I was told is a defect with this particular make and model.

This vehicle is consuming 3qts or more of oil per 3,000 miles, According to GM 1 qt per 1000 mls is accepatable, I did a 400 ml trip 1qt of oil was consumed, GM says this is just in the gray area, They state it is exhaust valve guide seals, I say Crap, If it was seals it would blow blue oil smoke at start up, It consumes oil mostly on interstate driving.

The 3800 engine in my 2005 Impala uses a quart of oil every 1500 miles. Bad boring, bad exhaust seals, whatever - I have NEVER had a car that used oil like this.
Screw GM! This is NOT normal.
