Well it all started with the heat not getting hot one day, and so we added more coolant to the radiator and it satisfied it for a little bit. Then we replaced the thermostat JUST SO IN CASE! Then the water pump went out. Replaced it TWICE! High Coolant Temp light kept coming on yet it wasn't boiling over or hot. Finally one day it took a turn for the worse, and started shooting out smoke and missed. Water in the oil, and can't bleed the air out of it. FINALLY come to figure out it was a failed intake gasket. Still not fixed though!! Can;t get anyone to work on it.

Well I called myself a Chevy woman to the heart, well not anymore. This piece of sh*t has been a headache and still making payment on it they made this car so cheap and wants to charge alot. Tonight my man went to see why my car was making alot of noise and came up and told me that that I didnt have any coolant anywhere WOW ! No telling how long I have been driving my car like that and hoe much damage it caused. well these Motherf*cker s can have this car back and I will go with something overseas. They must had been Drunk when they was putting it together. The reason that I am mad cause that aint all that wrong between the transmission skipping gears, steering wheel making a grinding sound, and no F*CKING heat when its 6 degrees blowing cold air, and the payments I an done. And I will drop it off at McCus on Galbraith where I got it from

Bought 2005 Impala second hand off dealership (previously used as rental)...was told that regular maintenance was done...Drove satisfactorily for over a year.

Just recently, I noticed heater was blowing cold air, in low speeds...along with coolant level going down (although i couldn't see any visible leaks). Added recommended DexCool coolant; Followed up promptly with trip to garage - fearing the worst (because this is my second Chev! Previously owned a Lumina, which required cylinder head gasket to be replaced at relatively low KM).

Mechanic found leak in lower manifold intake gasket. I noticed in reading other complaints, that this was a common problem with the 2002's also. Seriously, how long does it take GM to learn from their mistakes??

Currently having manifold gasket replaced. Major expense - not under warranty! Major inconvenience! Major disgust with GM!

If this is such a common problem with Impalas, why haven't they fixed it!???

This is my second Chev. Fool me once: Shame on you (GM)!!! Fool me twice, Shame on me... Fool me Three Times - It isn't going to Happen!!! (GM's customer grace has ran out with me!)

I'm really annoyed with the quality of product GM is putting out on the market! Who in the world would think of putting "PLASTIC GASKETS" in a motor??? Apparently GM! I am NOT impressed with their brain wave on this one!

Details which led to the discovery of this underlying problem (so others can be aware!!): Initial indication of this problem included my heater blowing out cold air (even after vehicle heated up). Came to discover that the manifold intake gasket was leaking coolant (which ultimately led to heater not working correctly)... - I had no indicators come on. - The vehicle did NOT overheat (so it didn't register on temperature gauge)

Fortunate for me, At the time of this discovery, I also decided to replace the cylinder head gaskets (since afterall, GM's reputation preceeds itself! Lumina (3.1L V6) car had similar problem!

Upon stripping off head of motor, I was informed that the cylinder heads might have lasted another month (If I chose to ONLY replace manifold intake gasket - the initial problem)

SAVE YOURSELF some major BUCKS people!!! Get the gaskets replaced! If I had left it, the cylinder heads would have went - and motor would have been ruined!

Cost me $843.00 to fix this problem! NON-WARRANTY job... (This sure beat over $2000.00 had I left it!) KM on the car were a mere 102,000 km!

GM should be made to replace ALL the gaskets in these vehicles they've sold - along with reimburse people for damage & expenses incurred because of their faulty products!
