Speed gage is not working correctly. It will work and stop working in rotation. When car in not in movement, it sometimes shows vehicle is going a speed of 60 to 120 miles per hour. When in motion the gage moves from random speed to speed. Sometimes at estimated speed of 60 miles per hour the gage is showing 5 miles per hour or maybe 105 miles per hour.

I was accelerating and merging onto a road and just got into the middle lane. Suddenly the car kept accelerating even though I had stopped pressing the pedal. The engine was revving and the car got up to 70 mph in a 55 zone. The brakes did not seem to help slow the car. In a panic I shifted to neutral and was able to pull onto the shoulder and stop the car. Even when I was in park, the engine was still revving. I turned the vehicle off and rested it about 5 minutes and was able to restart it. It did not seem to have any problems on the way home after that. It was an extremely scary and dangerous situation as there were cars very close to me. I noticed that my floor mat was much higher than usual and was under the accelerator. I don't know if that could have contributed to the problem. I do often use cruise control. I cannot remember if it was on at the time and I cannot remember if I was accelerating using the steering wheel button. I do not believe I was at the time but the cruise control likely was on. All I remember is it going out of control. It seemed best to report the situation. I am very glad nothing serious happened as it very well could have. I may get a ticket for speeding though. I don't think they would ever believe this happened to me.

The contact discovered that both functions were not able to be activated at the same time. Either the cruise control or the windshield wipers needed to be activated at a single time in order for either function to operate. Had to recently replace fuel ejection and other part for fuel leaking and fumes overcoming in car. Now the speedometer, fuel and tack gauge stopped working. GM has not recalled this on the Impala and they are aware this is a problem but will not take responsibility. These issues have been a serious safety hazard for my daughter and cannot drive the car. Every Chevy dealership and parts stores think there is a recall until they look it up. Thats how much they are aware of the issues. Once again ill have to pay approx. $300 just for the part. Dorman oe solutions instrument cluster. How can we stop GM from getting away with this! we need help!

While driving horn sound weak and stopped working I had to take out fuse for the horn because it was just sounding off. Another important issue while driving at night low beam headlights will turn off while driving in the dark. This can cause a serious wreck especially if you are on the highway and could kill someone. Very dangerous situation. Same thing with the horn, someone can pull out in front of you and you cannot blow your horn.

When taking off from a stop, the car jerked instead of taking off smoothly. This seemed to happen at low speeds when car is shifting from one gear to another even though it has an automatic transmission. The safety risk here is that acceleration is not effected and a car could potentially hit you from behind especially at a stop sign/light.

When I first got the car I noticed that while driving it would sound like it wanted to cut off and eventually it did every time I came to a complete stop. Eventually it would not start at all. Had to get the fuel regulator pump changed twice. Then my car was claiming to be overheating so I changed the thermostat, temperature sensor and fan relays. But my temperature gauge is reading out of whack saying my car is overheating when its not. A couple months later my speedometer just started acting up as well. It keep moving up all around and sometimes may stay on zero. Yesterday it made a complete 360 and is stuck it at the bottom. A coworker was jus telling me about her Chevy truck speedometer problems last week and literally within a weeks time the exact thing happens to me with no warning. There must need to be a recall if I don't even have to finish typing Chevy Impala and speedometer problems automatically pops up!!!!

From stop I would step on the gas, and the car would slam into gear. I have had to have the electrical cluster replaced $300, and the fuel control replaced (car always smelt like gas) now they think this slam is the tcc valve in the transmission which is anywhere from $600-$900. Also the steering knuckle makes a loud noise on sharp turns. Whats next" are any of these issues recalls"

I was driving home one night and my car said I was doing 120 mph. When I was at a complete it still read 75 mph. We replaced the speed sensor twice thinking this may be the problem, but it was not. I can get it back to 0 by turning the car on and off until it hits 0. this kept doing this so I took it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they stated it was a cluster in the dash going out. I have two children who are in this car with me alot and do alot of night time driving and when this goes out is not the best feeling of safety. I have a 2005 Chevy Impala.

Impala

  • 90,000 miles
My wife and two children were riding in our 2005 Chevrolet Impala and it suddenly started accelerating uncontrollably. My wife called 911 and told them that she couldn't get the car to stop and the brakes seemed to be locked. The car went uncontrollably for about 3/4 mile, and reached speeds over 90 mph. She ended up putting the car in neutral to get it to slow down even though the engine was still accelerating. We had it towed to a Chevy dealer, but they didn't find anything wrong with it. If my wife wouldn't have thought to put the car in neutral, my entire family very possibly could have died. Very scary incident!!

Our complaint is about GM's unwillingness to recall 2005 Chevy Impala's for the speedometer instrument cluster (stepper motor) issue. Apparently, they've recalled the trucks but not the cars. That's totally unacceptable. I have to pay $500 to get this fixed and they are aware of the issue but, now my vehicle has over 70,000 miles which is also a problem-I don't understand why this would matter - broken is broken. Anything you can do to help to get this recalled with no mileage restrictions would be greatly appreciated.

Impala 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,500 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. While driving less than 70 mph, the vehicle would not decelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact continued to pump the brakes until the vehicle eventually slowed down. Periodically, while traveling in residential areas or areas where the speed limit is less than 55 mph, the vehicle will accelerate on its own. The contact would remove his foot from the accelerator pedal and the vehicle acted as if it were stuck in cruise control. The dealer believed that the cruise control may be the cause of the failure. The failure and current mileages were less than 92,500. Updated 11/12/08 updated 11/13/08.
