Just had the vehicle in the year before for a new power steering pump. Started wondering if this is going to be a yearly issue now that it was 5 or 6 years old...

turned out to be about every other year. It's had so many power steering issues over the years that before we go on a trip we have to take it in to get it checked. Although it hasn't been too expensive each time it's a safety issue, and it adds up. Not to mention it is annoying.

I couldn't tell you why I keep the car, I'd say it's because I'm too cheap, but the yearly repairs add up. I suppose it's a toss up. Between the Tranny, fuel pump, power steering, rust (even though I wash and wax the crap out of it), radiator, gaskets, hoses going bad, alternator. I figure if I do the body work I'll call it a 2016 Impala.

So we went to Kansas, and the geniuses that manufactured this car screwed up. The plastic protector on the bottom of the car, that keep water and debris from getting inside engine area became a culprit. The vibration from driving in general started to cut into the power steering lines. One actually started leaking, spraying power steering fluid up onto my engine before we went to Kansas, but we thought it was just a leaky upper intake gasket.

We got into Kansas to see family, and the power steering goes completely out while we are in town ( 25 mph, weren't going all that quickly.) Luckily the town we were in had a Chevy dealer, but it's a small town so we had to wait for parts. We had our departure time set back by several hours while waiting for them to rip the underside of my car apart to replace this power steering line, and it cost $340 for just one steering line. The second power steering line was starting to get worn on, but it has not broken through yet and wasn't replaced.
