Impala LX 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Okay, this problem started for me when it was snowing pretty badly outside. I turned the wipers off and they didn't go all the way down but being so cold and my 1 year old son with me I didn't have time to mess with it. Later that night I went out to start my car and get it warm and all of a sudden my wipers went straight up. I couldn't have that here in ND or would get pulled over, so I had to run my wipers on the slowest setting just to keep them out of my line of vision. I even got out and got all of the snow out from under them, chipped any ice I may had missed earlier away but still they wouldn't go down. After a lot of research this is the only fix and reason I could find:

"There is a "park pawl" on the wiper motor that has bent...you need to remove the wiper arms and plastic cowl to access the motor and either bend the pawl back, or replace it...once the arms and cowl are off, have a helper turn the wipers on, then off, you'll see the bent pawl clearly."

In snowy climates, properly functioning windshield wipers are a must. Currently, the defrosting system does not heat the area where the wipers sit at rest, therefore as soon as you stop using your wipers on a cold day, they will freeze up on you. This is an accident waiting to happen! Someone warned me about this after I bought my car, but I wish I had known before. This car is very frustrating in snow, freezing rain or slushy conditions. If you live in an area like this, get ready to pull over regularly to loosen your wipers!

The windshield wipers did not go to the park position. The wipers stay in a upright position. The windshield wiper motor and switch was replaced and so far we spent over $300 to have it fixed but that still is not the problem. We were told the next thing to try is a windshield wiper transmission. I drive 1 1/2 hrs to work and I keep getting headaches because of the position of the wipers. Now that this is happening, my ABS light and service traction device light is coming on. It's out of warranty so now everything wants to break. That's why GM overs big rebates to get rid of the junk. This is the biggest pile of sh*t I ever owned. After the salesman told me it would retain its value, I went to trade it in and since there is so much negative equity, I'm stuck. Thanks GM. Now its going to dollar me to death. After reading some of the other complaints, I'm not the only one. I feel this should be recalled!!!!!! Their getting their money back in rebates for cost of repairs. Go TOYOTA!!!! That's my next car.
