Bought this car used in summer 2015. Yes, the car has 100M + miles on it but runs great and in great cond.! Took it in for oil and filter change. Less than 6 weeks (1000 miles +/-) later the "check engine oil" light came on. The oil was so low that I added 2 quarts. Checked it again about a month later and it was not even measuring on the stick!! Brought it again for full service in December and turned the car over to my son.

6 weeks later I just thought I'd check the oil because he said the oil light came on. Checked the oil level, NOT EVEN MEASURING ON THE STICK! He hadn't even put 1000 miles on it! Doesn't smoke, doesn't leak a drop, where the heck is all of this oil going?

Dealer states that normal oil consumption for GM engine is 1 quart for every 2000 miles, my car uses 1 quart every 1000 miles. Dealer mentioned a possible fix in the oil pan, by placing a shield over something (can't remember the actual term) but could not verify this would fix it and I would be responsible the the repair cost. Other option is to purchase a chip and re-program the car to run on all 8 cylinders all the time versus dropping to 4 when in cruise mode. Still no guarantee to fix and chip cost $400. At this time still adding oil every 1000 miles and now have over 95,000 miles on it.

For large body sedans such as the Impala V6 engine, at about 100,000 miles, the engine begins to consume motor oil a little faster than it normally should. I do not think this is a major issue, considering most vehicles once they surpass the 100k mark, you need to pay a little more attention to your car. I was told to add a quarter quart after every 1,000 miles. This will make the car run as smoothly as possible, keeping engine lubricated at all times, and will improve idling when the vehicle is stopped. If you notice, Impalas over 100k on it for mileage, will begin to idle a little more roughly, and some of that idling, has to do with oil pressure..

The 2006 Impala is a piece of Crap.. I bought the car in June of 2009 at 53.000 miles and had it back to the Stealership in July for the low oil light issue.. Car has been using a average of1 - 2 quarts every 2000 miles and the dealer has torn the car down 3 separate times and finally they told me it was a design flaw and that GM will be doing a recall....WELLLL still no recall and the car is getting worse... I know may have to park and I have about 36 more payments to go!!... I've read enough complaints on the internet about the SS V8 engine and other Chevy SS,s that are doing the same thing. I think someone needs to contact GM and tell them that a lawsuit needs to be filed against them for ripping the public off !!!!... My next car will not be a GM!!!

Bought Chevy impala with about 37000 miles, between oil changes the oil low light illuminated, brought it in and it was a quart low. Same thing on next oil change dealership told me that the quart low was within their parameters, traded vehicle in for a Honda couple months later. Will not buy another so called "American" vehicle, even though this American vehicle was made in Canada, if the quality standards are subpar. If your going to scream American made and put bumper stickers on vehicles saying out of a job yet buy American, make the vehicle in America, and bring up the standards. If Chevy and GMC need help call Honda or Toyota for pointers.

I bought my "certified" 2006 Impala in 2007 with 22,000 miles on it. Around the time it had 30,000 miles on it--It the low oil light started coming on before it was even time for an oil change. Sure enough it was a quart low. There is no reason for a car with so few miles on it to be using oil. The dealership said time and time again that GM allows for a quart usage between oil changes. I think they just don't want to fix it. I've had older cars with much more miles on it and not one of them used oil like this. If that is something GM views as normal then its no wonder other car makers have taken the lead in sales and customer satisfaction. The car now has 50,600 miles on it and is using a more than a quart between oil changes now.

No help from the dealer at this point. They are just going through their mindless checklist of what the manual says to check next. I have been working with the dealer on this problem for about a year now. Every time we travel at 70 mph on the highway for a t least 50 miles or so, I loose about a quart of oil. Enough that it no longer measures on the dipstick. I am facing at least $1500 in service costs to diagnose and try to fix. Not sure what root cause will be yet and whether the any fix will last.
