I'm afraid to turn on the heat or air because the noise is so loud. Right now we're having 90 degree weather and I need the air conditioner

The knocking noise on the Impala is so horrible. Its annoying and Chevy should fix it because is not fair that we have to pay for it.

Seems like Chevy should have a recall on this actuator problem. It is a very costly repair and see many of them happening!!! So frustrated!

everytime you change the a/c heater or change the up and down of air flow a switch keeps clicking for minutes . The switch is attached to the lever controling the vent flap.

Two of the actuators for the heating and cooling system in my 2007 Chevrolet Impala went bad----the one behind the dash on the driver's side and one in the glove box. Every time I turned the A/C off or turned the car off, I would hear an awful clicking/knocking noise. If I used the automatic start in my car, I heard an extremely obnoxious machine gun type sound that would not stop for several minutes. I tried to ignore the problem, however it became more frequent and so annoying that I decided to bite the bullet and pay the dealership. It cost me $715 to have this problem fixed--and that was AFTER taking off a 20% service coupon I had for the dealership!

The problem is with the door blend actuator is made in China and the the plastic teeth in the gears degrade. The GM part number is AC Delco 15-74122 HVAC Actuator. The part is small, costs less than $30 on Amazon. The hard work is getting to it. There are 3 on the car. One under the dash and the driver side and two under the dash the the passenger side. The one I had go bad was under the passenger side. Drop down the glove box and use a 5.5mm socket to remove. If you have real small hands, it might be easier for you. It's a tight squeeze. The dealer may charge you 4 hours in labor (about $400). So if need be, you could buy some high quality small power ratchet to get to it. I did it with a 5.5mm socket and a small driver that was about 2 inches long.

This happens whenever you turn off the the AC, or change the directional switch. Sounds like the directional flapper is slipping and not turning closed? Not sure. I'm thinking about tearing into the dash and finding the problem, save some money this way. So during the winter, no problem.

When you turn the AC off, it starts knocking or if you shut the car off after the AC was running, it starts knocking.
