I have noticed for more than a year that this car would not make it to the next oil change before it needed oil. I added oil. Oct. 2015 settings say it is at 23% left of oil life. Next day from when I had check my dash board message says "OIL LOW , ADD OIL. I check the dip stick and there is a drop of oil at the end of the dip stick. I added one quart of oil, let car sit. Wow now there are TWO drops of oil on the dip stick.

Left it at dealership on October 30, 2015. (Definitely a bad day to leave a car to be fixed) . Saturday it was on the hoist in the air but the tech didn't work that day. Nov. 1 they tell me it needs intake gasket and head pan gasket replaced. It's still there as of Nov. 2.

There is no recall on the 2007 Impalas, but there is a recall on the same intake gaskets for earlier models because it can leak on the engine and catch fire. Yes, we will be contacting G.M. and are getting the old parts back.

Update from Nov 3, 2015: I am updating this because others have listed this under excessive oil consumption. this 2007 Impala 3.5L v6 is doing the same thing as others complained about. In less than 3000 miles the car is losing about one and half quarts of oil. There is no visible signs of leakage because it's burning away as it leaks out. My 2000 Impala with 3800 series engine did not do this until the oil pan gasket started to fail with over 100,000 miles on it. Changed that gasket. There 3.5L V6 are now the 3600 series. Sucks

Within the last year my '07 Impala has began to burn a noticeable amount of oil between oil changes. For the first time or two I brushed it off, thinking maybe the mechanic didn't fill it completely. Last summer, the low engine oil light came on, and I needed to add two quarts. Since then, I have been checking very regularly, and at 61,000 miles it has now burned 3 quarts of oil since its oil change 2,000 miles ago. This car has been very reliable, with the exception of this oil. The engine only takes 4 quarts of oil to fill, so this problem is extremely significant. I'd like to see Chevy stand behind their product, but will see.

I bought a new 2007 impala in June 2007 and from the time it was new it used excessive oil--like a quart in 3000 miles. I reported it to the dealer and they said it wasn't recognized as a problem until it used 1 quart in 2000 miles. They told me to keep checking it, which I have. I now have 47000 miles on it and it is using 1 quart in less than 2000 miles, so I talked to the dealer last week and they told me we would have to do an oil consumption test. Of course this requires them to change the oil and for me to bring it in frequently for them to check the consumption. To me there seems to be a problem here. I have a 2006 Buick with approx the same miles and in 3500 miles the oil on the dipstick is still on the full mark. Any one else have the same problem and have you had positive results from the dealer???

I service my own automobiles. With my vehicle being so new, I would check my oil level once per month. I notice that I loose 2 to 3 quarts of oil in between oil changes. I have brought this to my GM dealership and we are going through an oil consumption monitoring program. I feel like the dealer can only do some much. It seems like GM needs to do something. I have seen other instances of the same problem, yet there is no report noted by the dealership. I assume since I have the 3.9L LTZ engine, when the cylinders drop from 6 to 3, there must be some oil loss there. I see no leaks, and I don't see any smoke. The engine is not going through a break in period, and the mileage is much under 100,000 miles. I should not be using any oil what so ever. We have a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. All I can do is hope that GM will actually do something about it.

Update from Dec 8, 2014: To follow up further, my car now has almost 117,000 miles. We still have the same problem with oil consumption. I do believe it has something to do with the cylinders when that drop from 6 to 3 than back up to 6. Whenever I coast down a steep hill on a stretch of highway/interstate, once I get to the bottom and start stepping gradually on the accelerator, I can see a large plume of smoke coming out the rear. I think this further confirms that oil is getting past the rings when the car is running on 3 cylinders. Once you hit the accelerator and the car then runs on 6 cylinders, the oil gets burned off from there. GM and the dealer do not care. I will live with it I guess.
