Impala LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I’m so DISSATISFIED with Chevrolet. I bought a GOOD used impala for my daughter because I wanted her first car to be a safe dependable car. The ticking noise started when we test drove it. The auto dealership said they would fix it. So I assumed they did. It started again not long after we drove it home. It wasn’t constant and didn’t seem to interfere with anything. That is until we had a change in temperature and went to turn the heat on. No heat at all on drivers side. I’m so overwhelmed because I’m on a fixed income and this has to be fixed. I know another person that had this same problem. Why doesn’t Chevrolet RECALL this since it’s happening to SO MANY other cars? I’m so disappointed In Chevy, my family always stood by Chevy and I thought I’d follow. Not anymore. This needs to be RECALLED before her warranty is up which is only a couple months. Come on Chevy step up and do what’s right.

Impala LTZ V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

By mid-2016 yanking my mother's driver's license was probably a decade overdue. At age 85, she was full of confidence in her abilities. Unfortunately, she had dementia, and it didn't take much to have her neurologist to write a letter to her to tell her 'No more driving' - she would listen to doctors, and not sons. I wonder how torn she might be if I were a doctor haha.

Anyway, shortly after that, I took over operation of herlow miles vehicle , 2010 Chev Impala LTZ. About a month later, the dashboard noise began. Anytime I opened the car door, started the car, or adjusted the climate control settings (vent selection, blower volume, and/or temperature), the loud dashboard clicking began. But it only lasted for a minute or two and didn't really affect the A/c performance at that time.

I went online and concluded the failed parts were called actuators, and were an easy fix for all but one of them, but labor costs were high due to their location at various places in the dashboard. So, I ignored the problem. The one or two minute duration gradually increased to 4 or 5 minutes. And it turned into something like an orchestra practice, because when one of the actuators tired of clicking, another one started clicking from a different location under the dash. Then my house burned down, and her nice Impala, parked in the garage, was unfortunately right next to ground zero for this calamity, and was soon hauled off to the junkyard, melted aluminum rims and all. I swear, when the tow truck pulled the car out of the driveway I could hear those damned actuators clicking away!

Anyway, I saved a few hundred dollars by neglecting the repair. When I got some money from my Homeowner's Insurance claim, I went out and bought a 2012 Chevrolet Impala LTZ. And that is another story!

Impala 3.32L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,112 miles

Once again we have to take the Impala in for repair of the heat/air system. Started about 1 month after we bought the new vehicle. This is the second time for the actuator. I guess the next vehicle will be a foreign one. We have been a GM family for at least 50 years and I will never buy another one. It seems like the quality of the product is not worth the amount you have to pay for the product.

Impala LX 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

It is amazing that so many people have this problem and Chevy is not fixing it. I am going to bite the bullet and pay to fix it, because I want to be able to drive this car another 5 years. Don't know how much it will cost! Understand there are three actuators and that they will all have to be replaced.

Impala LT 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,000 miles

This is only the latest of a continually annoying problem. This will be the fourth replacement. I have seen this all over the internet with impalas. Shame on GM for not taking steps to take care of their loyal customers. It doesn't appear they have time to listen to the everyday person unless it results in numorous deaths or etc.

Impala LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 187,000 miles

At about 87,000 miles I knew I had another air vent actuator problem. You see, previously I've had to replace 3 air vent actuators on this car, so I knew when the fourth one acted up what was going on. Symptom was a very annoying 'rat-a-tat-tat' sound coming from within the dash. Over the course of owning this car, I had to replace 3 other actuators that all failed making the same noise in the dash. Since this model has 4 separate actuators, it took time for all 4 to eventually go out and need replacement. The first one I had to replace I believe was under warranty, so no money out of pocket on that one replacement. From what I recall, the first one failed somewhere around 20,000 to 30,000 miles. Since the warranty had expired when this 4th one failed, I had to pay for that replacement.

This certainly seems like a defect to me. I've had to replace all four of the actuators GM put in this car. Good work, GM on quality control. My son owns a 2007 Impala, and has had at least 2 of the actuators go out on his car. So, this problem spans multiple years. You'd think GM would put their "big boy" pants on and admit to a defect in their Impalas. Seems obvious to me this is a defect. I spoke with the Chevrolet dealership's service manager where I had the repair done, and he didn't seem all that concerned.

Now, I fully understand why so many have moved to buying Hondas and Toyotas. The Japanese got the quality memo years ago, and made quality of their products a high priority. Too bad American car manufacturers didn't get a clue.

I have had to replace the Actuator 3 times in the past 3 years; it is a simple fix but it is re-occuring. The AC/Heat does not work correctly if not replace; what is making this happen.
