2010 Chevrolet Impala. While driving at approximately 75 mph on a 5 lane busy freeway in Atlanta, the vehicle shut totally down. I was in middle lane so when there was a break in traffic I was able to glide to side of road. I lost all power (steering, breaks etc.) A semi was behind me when this happened. He came so close to hitting us.
1 second before this happened the traction control and the check engine warning lights illuminated. The service electronic stability traction control flashed. After 5 minutes it started. We called our mechanic. He said go to nearest auto zone and have them read the code. It was a sensor behind the gas pedal! Really??? I hate to think what would have happened if that semi driver did not slow down and get around us. He disconnected the check engine light so car would not shut off again until we had the part replaced. The part cost about $150.

About a month ago, I had the same or similar problem; power cut. Car could not go up the slightest hill. Eventually found a previously installed "check engine" light part had shorted out. Car ran fine for about a month and then, last night, cut power and "service stabilitrak" light came on. That light was also on the first time this happened. I continued to try to get home, about 10 miles from home, at about an average of 15 mph. As soon as I got to the first big hill, I only made it a third of the way before it would not move another inch. I called for someone to come and get me and then arranged for someone with a car hauler to pick the car up and deliver it to my garage. Now I'm seeing a lot of complaints for this particular car - 740 of them! Now I wish I had never bought it! And I still have another year of payments!
