The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Impala. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, "traction control need service" and "reduce engine power" messages appeared before the speed suddenly reduced. After restarting the engine and continuing to drive, the error messages continued to display before the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the accelerator pedal was faulty and needed to be replaced. The pedal was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,590. Updated 5/15/15 the consumer stated just before the engine shut down the message "shutting power off" was displayed. The vehicle coasted to a stop. The key was still in the on position. Updated 11/16/2015

The contact had to wait a moment after turning the vehicle off to restart the vehicle several times. The contact stated that the failure progressed intermittently and was becoming worse. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the accelerator pedal assembly throttle position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
