problem #2

Sep 112014

Impala V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

This happens on occasion, as I back out of a parking spot and turn the wheel, the car makes a clunking sound in the front right side. It doesn't happen often but has been happening since the car hit 10,000 miles. It only makes this sound briefly, it doesn't last or continue. I have to take it in for service soon and will mention it to the dealer since it has happened on more than one occasion.

Impala LT LT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,500 miles

Three times I left the car with the dealer to fix, and although they confirm the "clunking" sound in the front end, i.e. drive train, they have not identified what is causing the clunking sound when I tap and let off the gas pedal, at almost any speed. Motor mounts (?) were changed on the first visit. IT seemed the problem was resolved, but after going up and down some hilly streets in Leavenworth, KS, I noticed that the clunk was there in full force, no change.

The dealer says that the clunk, was the result of "backlash", but have NEVER identified what or where the backlash originates?? Still, they say that the backlash is within spec, and here also, they have not identified the source of the backlash, or how it is measured, but that it is "within spec". The "spec" has not been given whether in "pounds", "inches", "millimeters", or "thousandths of an inch", or "decibels".

The dealer is Henry Martens Chevrolet, in Leavenworth, KS.
