In stop and go traffic the car seems to have problems. When you take your foot off the gas you notice this change in the engine and once you press the brakes, it just dies. We've spent over $2000 in mechanical and towing with no results so far. Apparently, the mechanic can not get it to kill and he says without seeing it when it kills he can't be sure of the problem. Car will restart after a period of time (varies) and sometimes will run just fine for days.

UPDATE: I found out the problem with our car - it was the catalytic converter. It cost us $300 to fix, but now the car is running smoothly. What we were told is as the car gets older the converter starts to break down and all the asbestos? from it clogs the holes in the converter thus preventing the flow of air, choking out the car.
