For months my ABS light kept coming on and my brakes felt like something was binding up so I replaced the brake pads.I am a woman and not mechanically inclined thought that would end my problem but no the damn light still kept coming on and the brakes still felt funny.I was driving around town and almost ran into someone which scared the crap out of me so I take it in to a shop to have them tell me my brake calipers were seized up which cost me almost 400.00 freaking bucks I didn't have and then they have some more distressing news for me. They tell me my intake manifold has a leak and the heater core is going out and don't forget the damn blown head gasket and numerous small things for a total of about 3500.00 worth of work I need to have done.I take very good care of this car and was really surprised to hear all the things they say are wrong with my car. My car does have a small coolant leak and runs a little warm but I see no signs of a blown head gasket.I forgot to mention that I have replaced the alternator 3 damn times.My husband is a construction worker and hasn't worked since Nov. and I can't afford to put 3500.00 in a car thats worth only about 1200.00. I can't believe after reading all the complaints about the leaky manifolds and blown head gaskets that GM thinks there isn't a problem. I don't understand how they can call themselves an American company because I can probably get a jap car with less problems.I am really irritated that this has been a problem that Gm is aware of and has done nothing to correct the problem or offer to pay for the repairs.I just hope that one of there freaking employees has a Malibu and gets stranded and the company tells them that they can't do any thing for them. It will serve them right to experience what all of us have gone thru.

Intermittently the ABS light would come on while driving and stay on until car was turned off. Then it wouldn't appear for a few days until you start to forget about it and then "DING DING" it would come on again. Luckily it was an easy problem for the tech to diagnose once he hooked up the computer. Not so easy on the pocket book though. $450 for a new front left speed sensor.

I wish GM had a recall on the 98 chevy malibu for this ABS Computer Module. because I've had the car for at least 4 Mos. and had gas leaks gas pan replacements and chasis problems. I can't take it no more. and I thought I would buy another malibu, again. No way. I don't know about GM anymore either.

Would like to get this fixed, worried when driving and the light comes on. Manual says should stop car and restart, not that easy when you are on the highway.

I'm still not sure why my ABS light goes on. I've had the car 2 years and it still happens, primarily when it's raining. My mechanic said it's nothing to worry about because the brakes will work regardless but it does make me nervous.
Update from Aug 15, 2013: 40,000 miles later I am replacing the front right speed sensor. We'll see how that goes.
