I paid $500.00 to replace rear light units both sides after they continually filled up with water and shorted out the brake lights. This did not fix the problem and I have been told that it is a GM defect and to fix the wiring now would be time consuming and no doubt costly. How do I get this fixed once and for all before someone rear ends me? I have had numerous problems with this car, engine coolant leaking, theft alarm coming on preventing me from starting my car, replaced the starter, water pump.

This was definitely a "Pain in the ass" as I had changed the lights three times, and after they kept shorting out. Every time they went out, I was stoppped by the police and had to report it being fixed by bringing a receipt to the government driving office to prove it. I also noticed after a heavy rainfall, the rear lighting compartments would flood with water as the seal around the compartments is minimal, next to none and very cheaply made.
