I bought this used and was told that it ran beautifully. Two months after I bought it, the coolant light kept coming on. I took it to a garage who had to replace the intake manifold. Over $1,000 later, I thought I fixed the problem. I was wrong. Every 6 months since I bought it (I bought the f*cker in the spring of 2010), the coolant light keeps coming on. I've taken it to a garage twice to fix the problem, spending roughly $1,000 each time. The second last time the light went off (April 2012), my brother and I discovered a leak and we replaced it. I was relieved that the part was only$16. Now the light just came on yesterday AGAIN! I've had it with this pile of crap. I've heard the Malibu's engine that was made in 1999 is poorly made, and a lot of people have this problem. It should have been recalled! I wish I would've known about this piece of junk in the first place. Oh well, live and learn right? Never buy Chevrolet. Or GM for that matter.

My best advise: Do NOT buy an American Car. I had followed the indications of the owner manual, so there where no problems with me doing something other that what was recommended by the factory specifications. Still, I got the same problem that a lot of people had with this car, leaking coolant and a problem with the engine. (I know of two friends that have the same problem with the car). I had to pay a bunch of money for the dealer to fix the problem ($1000.00). GM is a company that does not want to back up their own product. Now, there are more problems with the car, like malfunction of the lights and the seats not working right. As a counselor, one of the things that I recommend people is not to buy GM products. I know I won't. I will probably buy another five to ten cars in my lifetime and they WON'T be GM...

First off, my car started forcing antifreeze out of the overflow jug hose, basically until it had all run out. After being told the jug was bad and having it replaced.. the next day it did it all over again plus sprang a leak in metal hose near thermostat. So i took it back to my mechanic and then they replaced the thermostat and the metal hose and also did a compression test on the engine to try and rule out head gasket issues (which came out fine) ran great for a week then it started leaking antifreeze from water pump. I just got my car back today and so far so good.. but it seems to me that for the antifreeze to be forcing out the overflow jug hose when not being over full or over heating, springing leaks, and blowing antifreeze out the water pump makes me believe that my problem has probably not been fixed and that its a more serious condition that my mechanic thinks :( In the many times that I have had to add coolant to my overflow jug.. i have noticed that the coolant and the inside of the cap is sludgy and thick. Ive read on here that that is a sign of my oil and coolant being mixed together.. Anyone else having these issues..???? PLEASE HELP!
