Greetings,
I remember when Hondas were premature rust buckets. Honda did something about it. I don't think Chevy will do anything. The body shop owner said he had seen three the day I came in. My car is in mint condition except for that one spot. I will get it fixed but it shouldn't be so painful in the wallet area..

Looks bad on a car where the other paint is fine, and you have a rusty mess by gas cap.

I noticed that this problem isn't only mine, but I have seen several Chevy Malibus with the same problem. I believe that this can be a severe safety issue, especially being around the filler door.

The rust around the gas cap is awful. The rest of the car is fine. Chevrolet wonders why we don't buy their cars???Cars made in the last decade should not be rust buckets.

i thought it was just from gas maybe spilling over on to it and it was bubbling like the other people that have complained on here.... last month it finally broke through and there a freakin huge hole too! i have my car washed once a week due to the salt that is layed down during the winter here. this shouldn't have happen. i am also starting to notice rust (just specs of it on the hood. but not to the extent that this big ugly ass hole is!

The rusted spot is a circle an inch in diameter and is close to the gas tank door which means it's easy to snag with fingers or clothing etc. There isn't another spot on the whole car. Why this particular spot gave way is a mystery to me but I wish the spot was anywhere else on the car!

My 2000 Malibu also has the rust at the gas. The cost to repair $550. I have also replaced the serpentine belt, the front rotors. There is a squeak in the back brakes that the mechanics find no problem with. I just had the fuel pump replaced at $800. and was told that my intake gasket has a leak. At what point do you stop fixing this car.

Purchased the car with 50K miles. By 60K I could see small bubbles under the paint. Now with 140K, I have a hole under my gas cap door. What a bunch of crap!

My paint began bubbling up under the gas door for no apparent reason. Dealer said it has to rust all the way through before they will fix it. Yeah, I'm really sure that's going to happen. They said they've never seen this before, but obviously others are having the same problem.

Shortly after purchasing this car 3 years ago, the paint below the gasoline intake cover began to bubble and it's really looking awful now! The car isn't even paid off for another year and by that time I'll probably have a huge hole there. HELP!

Under the gas tank chicken pox type blisters. I spoke to GM customer service since this is under 6 years old, and was told that the rust has to originate from inside and not outside. Since the paint bubbles up (that warranty is 36000 miles) it will not be covered unless there is a recall.

rusting at gas access door, tried to get painted dealer A suggested going to original seller--no help from either. Have noticed several with the same problem on the highway.

Been a loyal customer for many year... bought 3 cars from the same dealer within the last 3 years.... however nobody will do anything to fix this (partly due to the fact that I do my own oil changes).... if GM neglects this product defect they will lose yet another consumer.

should have been under warranty, hasn't been covered as yet.

makes me mad, GM used to give us our moneys worth. I've seen 200 of these cars and every one rusted right there. This should be a mandatory recall before a little child gets cut on this or somewhere else and gets sick. The rest of this car body is good. I know what did it, they were too cheap to put inner fender well in these cars. I will never buy a new gm again, this did me in on trusting them. So, so, so, sad, they're making junk now.
