2000 Chevrolet Malibu with persistent brake problems. Have to replace major brake components every approximately 20,000 miles. Also, dexcool coolent leak from the intake manifold after only (approx) 50,000 miles. Dexcool coolant breakdown and subsequent failure of cooling system.

Dealer states normal wear and tear, but strange excessive heat on rotors to warp and crack each pair. Steering column shakes when brakes applied. Brake pedal goes to the floor with excessive braking distance. At other time, brake pedal is like manual braking with stiffness. Vehicle will slide at normal braking on asphalt. Quick defensive braking causes consumer to have difficulty maintaining lane due to violent shaking of steering column and brake pedal. Calipers grabbing rotors when brake pedal applied causing immediate jerk right or left in the steering wheel.

Air leak around passenger side door reported 2 times 1st time couldn't duplicate 2nd time door realigned. Brakes cause excessive vibrations upon stopping rotors and pads replaced at 24000 miles reoccuring at 38000 miles.

My rotors and brake pads were replaced because of defective rotors 3 times since I purchased my car they were replaced at 407 miles and 8248 miles and finally my rotors were replaced at 27980 miles it seems as though General Motors has been using defective rotors on their cars and is not going to do anything about it until someone is killed and they are sued then maybe the government will force them to look into this problem.

I have had my Chevrolet Malibu for 2 1/2 years and have had to have my brakes fixed 3 times. The ABS brakes also went out on the driver's side. I have complained several times to the dealer, who stated that Malibu just have those kinds of brakes. I have also complained to GM who also stated there was not a problem with their brake system. I strongly disagree, I don't believe I should be paying $500 for new rotors and pads and 600 for a new bearing and ABS brake at 50,000.

Put 3 sets of brake pads & rotors (at 16,000, 33,000, 42,000) on this car & now needs repairing again. Had front end collision, head hit steering wheel but air bags did not deploy. After repairs from wreck, leaking coolant - resulted in blown head gasket. Edwards chev & adjuster said was not from wreck - problem probably started before wreck. Car is extremely hard to steer when parking. Feels like there is no power steering.

I have already filed a complaint with Chevrolet on 8/14/01 file number C05305523. They said they do not consider the front brakes wearing out ever 6 - 10 thousand miles a problem. They also stated that they have not received enough complaints to consider a recall. How many complaints do they need. I have never in my life owned a car in which the brakes had to be replaced ever 6 - 10 thousand miles. This is considered standard maintenance by the dealer and they refused to cover it under my warrenty. Therefore, I went to another mechanic that was cheeper then the dealer to replace my brakes 3 times. 4th time comming in the next few weeks. I wish somone would make Chevrolet recall the car and fix the front brake problem. I don't mind standard matience at a reasonable / comparable mileage rate.
