chevy really screwed up with this car: this car was made to use the least amount of water possible, so any small amount of coolant missing creates overheating....this system needs to be in perfect shape at all times: means no leaks at all not one drop and the reservoir has to be watched very careful to make sure it always has enough coolant. Once you experience one overheating problem it snowballs from then on: hoses start leaking all over when its not one its the other: if you were not lucky you had damage on your head gaskets...(it cost me $1600 to replace gaskets and resurface heads and that is with a brother mechanic) once your system is screwed you have to check your coolant level almost every day.. I replaced water pump, radiator, thermostat, all hoses including heater, I connected my fans to a switch so i can turn fans on at will. I have become an expert at what to do and what not to do with this car to keep it going....Don't ask me to borrow it because I'm afraid you will blow my head gaskets again...when the wife drives it I constantly call her ask her to read me temperature. Its a nightmare.. So here is how I keep going: first: this car collects lots of debris on the radiators, I took it to a car wash and sprayed radiator through grill, it was filthy it actually made a diifference....I removed thermostat I keep going back and forth on this but currently without...I always have air conditioner on it keeps fans going.....this has been working well for me but I going to reinstall a switch to turn fans on at will,,,,just in case cause I am not taking any chances.....remove all hoses clean all connections and reinstall with some silicone to help make a better seal. replace reservoir, usually this is the culprit that starts it all.

just want to fix it. everything has been done but it still overheats.

Since I've had this car, it has overheated. The fans will not spin. When it overheats, it pukes about a gallon of coolant onto the ground. I have had the system flushed 3 times, replaced the thermostat 3 times, the pump twice, and am working on the 4th cap. Right now, I have the fans hardwired on when the key is on, but this can only be a short term solution. There has to be a fix for this.

After reading all the complaints ,I called GMAC,LMAO,they called me,I even sent the complaint page to them, they told me well there is No recall nothing we can do.......Pissed me off.How can they do people this way,Life is hard enough, saving every dime to get by.! when 1st happened changed water pump ,thermostat & had the radiator flushed , DID NOT FIX PROBLEM , as long as car is sitting still @ idle runs fine [temp.gauge shows normal] , BUT as soon as U get the car on the highway & run normal hwy speed , can watch [temp gauge] start climbing , the water[in radiator] gets H O T & the water in the Reservoir will START B O I L I N G!!!!
the only thing [we just thought about is , what about the radiator hose[s] , could they be Collapsing 'under pressure'[going down hwy *engine speed causes water pump to run harder{????} which could possibly cause "bad/weak" hose to collapse ???? engine has not been gone into , since coming from factory so the Intake gasket should correct [know that Victor & Fel Pro have a {New & Improved}Revised Intake gasket ] Could the factory Intake gasket be the Culprit? ? ? ? This 3.4L v6 OverHeating Problem is about to drive me to d r i n k i n g !
PLEASE , somebody save me before it's tooooo late
THANK U

I bought this chevy malibu in march for book value $2100. Less than one month later the car started overheating. The coolant level was empty .On the radiator fill it states dex coolant only which is the most expensive coolant out there. I filled it with the entire bottle and the car did stop overheating for only 2 or 3 days. Now im realizing there is no leaking however it is necessary to fill the coolant 2 or 3 times a week which is very costly.I tried using a universal antifreeze and the car still overheats so definitely dex coolant only. I am disappointed to see all the complaints on line with owners of this vehicle there should be a recall this is very unfair . I will never trust an American made car again because I beleive this car was designed to insure you continuosly spend your money on gm products what a scam! My jetta Ive had for years has not given me one problem good on gas and im over 200,000 miles. sorry to say i wish otherwis

i bought 2000 model Chevy Malibu in 2005 and after 6 months, start leaking and heating problem. start adding coolant once every month, then 2 times a month and now every week or sooner. Chevy saying they making cars for more than 100 years and still dont know how to make f*cking car. then don't do this business. my advice is go do junk car business. they can make money of it.

The car has been overheating because the cap on the overflow wouldn't seal. after replacing twice- had to get whole new tank.

Well this car started off with a simple overheating problem, but 2 weeks later I'm here. I recently replaced the thermostat, hoping that would fix it. Well it didn't. Turns out I needed a ECT sensor as well which i didn't mind paying for cuz I knew I needed it cuz the gauges where acting weird and saying it was overheating when it wasn't. Well that did not fix the problem. I just had the radiator and engine block flushed out this morning and i don't know why but i think it made it worse. Now my car is overheating more quickly so now I'm stumped. I think it might be the radiator itself but then again the fans aren't kicking on from what i can see. They were working yesterday but i can't get them to kick on today. Anyone got any advice!?!?!?!?!? please reply...........

The coolant light kept coming on, and I kept adding coolant. I had the car pressure tested to find whee it was being lost, A new water pump ($400) was installed. It began to run hot after two weeks. It then began to leak on the carpeting. A new Heater core was the next solution. But since the idiots at GM put the core INSIDE the fire wall, it was a $700 repair. It still ran hot, so the thermostat was replaced. Then the radiator was hot at the top, and cool at the bottom. IT was also replaced, Total, $1341, plus towing. BUT that wasn't the CAUSE of all the trouble. It also needed a new head gasket! Another $1687!

My daughter bought her first car off the lot at Carhop, she was totally inexperienced as to what to look for before buying the car. I live in Florida, but was here in Tacoma, Washington for a month visit. She bought the car on Sept. 5, 2014, started giving her problems after 7 days, when she called Carhop to return the car for another one, they told her that she couldn't do that cause she was only given 3 days after she drove the car off the lot. She asked if they could somehow help her since she has a warranty that shows that Carhop would pay 100% for parts and labor, they told her they would call her back. As of this day, they haven't called her back.
She drove the car back and forth to work, and of course spending money for coolant every single day, for 3 weeks, that's a lot of money...Dex Coolant costs $12.00 a gallon and this adds up to $72.00 a week. She was just trying to get back and forth to work, no other activity due to car overheating. I just couldn't sit back and watch her stress out over this, she's only 19 yrs. old, so I decided to take action! This morning, I called Carhop, they said that the service department isn't open until 10am, yes, I can understand that, but they're going to give me an answer TODAY, I'll refuse to let them tell me, they'll call me back, so I'm crossing my fingers so they'll have a solution TODAY! If they don't, I'm reporting them to the Attorney General under Lemon law. This is their chance to make it right! No more waiting...how could they do this to young people that are inexperienced. They BETTER have an answer for me TODAY!!!
