The fix was replacing the hazard light switch. The housing around the light cracks and somehow causes a short in the turn signal. I knew there was a recall on this problem but my VIN was not listed in the recall...go figure. Had to get the part from a dealer and tear the dash apart to replace the thing but it worked and I haven't had a problem with the turn signals since.

Wiper Switch, Turning Signal, Horn Honking, Noisy Steering, Hazard Lights. Numerous repairs. GM had a recall but my best guess is that the defective part was replaced with another defective part. Now I have a bad switch and - you guess it...same old story. These cars should not be on the road.
Send your complaints to NHSTA and take GM to court better yet write to Congress for stricter laws.

Shortly after I purchased this car the signals began to work intermitantly. The signal seems fine, although there has been a reported issue on there being overheating in the connection, I feel that this issue is related to the electric relay box. Intermittant electronic problems are often the last to be diagnosed. The lights on both the inside and out just stop or wont even come on with the signal. This is extremely dangerous, especially in poor weather. Shame on GM for not taking action to fix there lemon of a car.

Like so many others that I see on this website, my 2000 Malibu has just starting making noise after my turn is completed and the turn signals have canceled. Sounds like in is only going to get worse.

We have a black 2000 Malibu with 100,000 miles. The turn signal noise goes off and on its own. My husband can make it stop by slamming his fist as hard as he can on the center of the dashboard (just to the right of the instrument cluster rise of the dash). It goes off whether we’ve recently used the signal or not. The signals themselves work like they are supposed to, but the noise is unbearable -- and at this point, bordering on comical.
Since the car is 7 years old, we don’t want to sink a lot of money into repairing it.

(p. s. we also have the signature under-gas-cap rust-through … I've seen this on other black Malibus … I wonder if it is a black paint/gas reaction of some sort)

Recently, the turn signal noise has started to go off on its own. The turn signal lights (interior and exterior) do not go off, but the noise that the turn signal makes will go off at anytime. This noise normally happens after I have used my signal and continues until I turn off the engine. It started out with a few extra clicks when I turned off the signal, now it's sporadic (staying on until I use the signal again, or turning on even when the signal has not been recently used).

When I use my turn signal, I get a buzzing noise coming from the dashboard and the signals do not work. The signal light indicators inside the dash panel both light up faintly, but the signals do not work. I can turn on the hazard lights at the same time and sometimes after a few seconds, the buzzing will stop and the hazard lights will start working. I turn the hazard lights off and the signal then works. The problem has been occurring more and more often. Sometimes the signal will initially work and the lock up and the buzzing noise starts. Lately even my stop gap measure of using the signal and hazard lights at the same time has not worked.

The right rear tail light filled with water during the first heavy rain, with just over 4000 miles. The problem: an idiotic design. The tail light housing is held on by flimsy plastic tabs that tend to pop loose, AND this housing is placed directly under the trunk gasket gutter, so rain POURS directly on this electrical housing. How dumb can they be?
I got mine fixed under warranty, but the wiring harness still has some corrosion.
I reported this to Chevy as SERIOUS: people's tail lights can go out in heavy rain, when it is most important. I said that they should notify people, because a simple piece of duct-tape can protect the vulnerable seal. Many years later, a recall notice, but no description of the actual problem. Why can't they just use common sense and care about the buyer? I sometimes wonder if any people are dead just because they didn't know were to put a 5 cent piece of duct tape.

The signals work when they want to. They decided not to work when I went through inspection so I failed. Mechanic reported they were functioning. After inspection they were still working sporadically. Never really fixed.

A couple of years after I bought car, the turn signals started to not work. They would work occasionally but not all the time. Then they stopped working at all. I found out that something in the hazard light overheats and causes turn signals not to work and GM was going to recall and fix the problems. I was never notified of recall, and when I called about recall, I was told that GM would not fix it because even though my car was the right year/model, etc... and it was the exact problem my car was having, GM said my VIN number was just 'a couple numbers' before they started the recall.??? They said I could pay to get it fixed and if I could prove it was the same problem they would refund my money. but I don't have the money to fix it only for them to come up with an excuse. I am really mad at GM for not taking care of a problem that is theie fault. I have been driving the car with no blinkers for about 2 years now.

Turn signals in car stopped working shortly after i got it. They started working just once in a while, then stopped completely. There was a recall on them, but I called and was told the recall did not apply to my car because my vin # was a couple numbers before they started the recall???? Even though it is the right make model and year and has same problem?

Sometimes, completely at random, the blinkers will stop working. They won't work and the next day you start your car and they're working again. This can potentially be very dangerous. Shame on you GM for making such a crappy car.

have you ever cursed at somebody for not using their turn signal? i did until my blinkers quit working like they were suppose to. it would work when you really didnt need it and it would'nt when you did. your blinkers are a very important safety item especialy when you need to make a turn in traffic car all the sudden start piling up on you because they dont know why your slowing down. mergeing in to another lane. people usally dont let you over even with a blinker but your doing your part by communcating. i have found the fix after some careful research i found a special policy i forgot the number but call gm directly give them your VIN, mileage and they will see if you qualify once you get your number go to the dealership it should not cost you a penny. if the problem matches the special policy.

THE TURN SIGNAL SEENS TO OVERHEAT AND CAUSING THE HARZARD LIGHTS AND THE TURN SIGNAL TO FAIL. THE ONE FIX FOR THE TURN SIGNAL OR HARZARD LIGHT GET STUCK IN THE ON POSITION SMACK THE TOP OF THE CONSOLE ABOVE THE HARZARD SWITCH OR TURN THEM BOTH ON SOMETIMES IT GETS IT DONE.. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE CONTACTOR CLICKS ON AND OFF WITHOUT BEEN SELECTED.
