I have a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu and I have replaced the cylinder switch with the dealer for the anti theft system lite coming on. The car will not crank for 10 minutes until it goes off. I paid $562 for this and it is still happening. I have replaced the keys and had them reprogrammed. I had the turn signals replaced, they would not turn on. I changed the bulb but that didn't work. I finally got a recall on that so I didn't have to pay for that. The Malibu has a serious defect electrically. No my a/c switch will not go pass 2. My driver and passenger side window will not go down. The motor on each door is out. Who would put a motor for each window on a car. It should only be the drivers side that controls all the windows and doors and use one motor not 4. This is to take consumers money trying to promote "Made in USA". I will put my money on a Toyota rather than an American made.

Sometimes when I get in the car to crank it....better not be in a hurry..Anti theft light comes on and car will not crank with key or at all. I tried disconnecting the battery...and a lot of other things that was recommended. Nothing helped. Not even new ignition switch. Chevy dealer said that nothing is wrong with the car...but suggested some very expensive maintenance for my piece of mind. lol

Who gives a damn about an anti theft system if i cant use my own car. Some times i wish it could just be free to get stolen in stead of waiting 10 minutes for the system to time out and then attempt to crank the car.( If someone attempted to steal the car I would give them the keys....and hope they have better luck then me) On a good day u only have to wait 10 minutes for the system to time out and the car to crank...But on other days it might take the system over 20 minutes ...*2 ten minute sections to crank. If u attempt to crank the car before your ten minutes is up the time will restart and u will wait longer. I hate that system. But when it cranks it runs like a champ ....Would I buy another one probably not??

Well, add me to the apparently long list of folks who have been SCREWED by GM!!! I have tried religiously, several times a day to start my car using all of the methods listed on this site and several others I have found on the web, but to no avail! My car sits in the drive while I take a cab everywhere I go, which is getting very expensive. BUT...I have no other recourse as one has to work, you know. The Passlock "anti-owner" system is a transparent money-grab by GM, and is a source of aggravation and exposes people unnecessarily to dangers they would not normally face, as in the "dark parking lot scenario." Why don't those of us who have been taken advantage of by this conglomerate of automotive abuse find a really good law firm and file a class action suit against GM for all the time and money we have lost on this POS car (read REAL lemon). I would be willing to help organize such a suit. If anyone is seriously interested, please e-mail me at lesterhayes@comcast.net. I am totally fed up with corporate abuse of the little guy.

Malibu LS 3.2 V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

Bought our son a 2000 Chevy Malibu LS 1 and 1/2 years ago. Had 54,000 miles. No reports showed up on carfax. Approximately 6 months later, car wouldn't start. Would turn over, but not start. Had car towed to Chevy dealer. Car started after it got there. Nothing showed up on diagnostics. About 4 months after that, engine coolant started leaking. Dealt with that for awhile. In the meantime, had to spend over 400.00 on brakes. Then we finally had to take car to have it fixed. Spent over 900.00 for leaking head gasket. 1 week later, car would not crank. Would turn over, but not crank. Had to have it towed again. Car cranked again after it got to dealer. They replaced a sensor at 250.00. 1 week later, car would not crank again one morning. Had it towed back to dealer. They kept it for almost 3 weeks and could not duplicate problem. I took the car from my son and drove it for 3 days. On fourth day, it would not crank that morning. Would not crank for 3 days in a row. Gas tank showed 1/2 tank. My husband told me to go get some gas in can and I came back and put about 2 gallons in and it cranked. So what could be going on? Seems like when car is lifted onto wrecker or when I added gas, car would crank. My brother who works on cars has had car for 3 weeks and it has cranked every time for him. He thinks problem might be electrical. Any suggestions? This is my first and last Chevy! It is a real piece of crap! I will stick to my Dodges in the future! Have a 1997 Ram and a 2000 dodge Dakota and never any problems.
