Malibu 3.1L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,200 miles

Going down state hwy at 65 mph tach went to zero, no power. Coasted to side of road, let sit for 5 min, started. Went several miles down road and happened again. Waited 10 min and started OK. Drove about 10 miles before turning off car. Did notice that the rpms were a going up and down occasionally. This had happened several weeks earlier (only once) and had into dealer who said it was bad connection on the battery and they cleaned for free. Haven't had it back in yet as I am still trying to figure out what might be causing it. Should also note that ocassionally it is hard to start, and sometimes revs high upon starting.

My husband recently totaled our 2006 Ford Fusion, which was still financed. We had to rush out and buy another car. I wasn't about to finance again with the mess that we were (and still are) in. I drive over an hour to work, so I needed a car ASAP. We went to a dealer in PA, and bought this god forsaken Malibu. Not only is there a clunking sound coming from the engine, but even worse, it shuts off while driving! Talk about a scary situation! You can't steer when this happens! It happened to my husband on Saturday, at least on back roads where people aren't going 75-90 mph. This happened to me today on my way to work. I was shaking, it is horrifying. I'm almost thinking about sleeping at my office tonight. I am deathly afraid to drive back and fourth in this car. Horrible, dealers shouldn't be able to sell this car at all. I am trying to get my money back from this car, we will see what happens.

2000 Chevrolet is awful. I bought the car brand new. After the initial 3 year warranty was up (of course) it started overheating. So far I have had 3 water pumps, 4 Thermostats, a lower manifold gasket and just last week another Thermostat. Now, the engine just shuts off going down the road, I can put it in neutral and it'll crank right up with no problem, but it's scary as heck. Now what's wrong with it????

Malibu LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,308 miles

I have a 2000 Chevy malibu that can stall out at any time while driving. It could go for 3 days sometimes with no problems and some days can stall out 3 or more times in one day. It used to be a great car to me but now I'm almost scared to drive it. I could be going 50 mph down the highway and at any time it could just shut off. The most scary thing is that i cant really steer the car after it stalls because i lose the power steering. sometimes it may start right back up and sometimes i have a really hard time getting it started again. My machanic thinks it may be an ignition switch. I'm going to try replacing that. I hope it works.

Malibu

  • Automatic transmission
  • 54,000 miles

After paying for this and having a new fuel pump put in and the seal replaced on the manifold for the cooling system. I had to check my water in the car weekly, and on top of that I broke down on the Interstate with a infant ( granddaughter) cause my fuel pump went out. My fuel pump only had 54,000 miles on the motor. I can't afford another car at this time so I have just drove this car and tried to get my money worth from all the expense of just repairs. I bought this car used and I was sold a lemon. The dealer ship here in my home town I believe knew it and like most of them do. It's a commission is all we are.

I am really tired of fixing things on this car. It is a nice riding , relatively smooth riding car but it just isn't reliable. This problems has arose one at around 110,000 miles and now again at 140,000 miles. When I took it to the dealership at first they didn't figure it out. The bad thing is that they won't fix anything until they can reproduce the error while driving it. And needless to say it doens't stall for them when they drive it so they can't diagnose the problem. Last time they fixed it, it was the MAP sensor... not MAF... MAP... and that seemed to fix it for 30,000 miles, not now it is doing it again and they keep test driving it, but it won't stall for them.

If it wasn't paid off it would have been traded in already... but having no car payment is so nice.

I've been stuck many times. While driving the car, it would stall and shut off while driving. The first occurence was two years ago traveling back home over a 150 mile radius. Imagine that! the biggest scare has been the dealers after taking it in for service don't have a clue without the check engine light coming on or complete (deadline) in-op. Shifty GM and now America no why we lose to foriegners in the car race. I'll still say a prayer for the GM workers that lost there jobs!

My 2000 Malibu Lemon engine quit on interstate; 1st time @ 80,000; leave short time and it restarts then runs 1/2 hour quits; repeated over and over; mechanic changed fuel filter & OK for another 80,000 then quits, again on multi lane highway; This time changed fuel pump & filter; so far OK but can not trust car for long runs. Note that in both cases the computer read out was ` No Problem ' Duh ?

Malibu V6

Have had several people look at this car. Things left suggested and not tried: New computer $300 + labor, new Fuel Pump and line $1500. We have been told it's possibly a hole in a line and that air is getting in the line. Also that when the battery died unexpectedly and was replaced that the connections were incorrectly mounted and could have caused a short in the computer.

I have been googling everywhere and can't find out a fix. I am running out of "Try this" money and need some serious suggestions from someone who has found a way to fix this problem.

FIRST OF ALL, I WAS OVERCHARGED BY POTAMKIN CHEVROLET DEALER IN MIAMI, FLORIDA FOR THIS VEHICLE. I PURCHASED A USED 2000 MALIBU. THIS CAR HAS HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET, A REPLACED OXYGEN SENSOR, FUEL INJECTION PROBLEMS, FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT AND RADIATOR FAN CHECKED NUMEROUS TIMES. I'VE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE DEALER OVER 4 TIMES AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE NOT AWARE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS F--CKING CAR. I REALLY AND TRULY FAULT THE GM DEALERS FOR TRICKING THE CONSUMERS INTO BUYING THIS VEHICLE. GM REALLY NEEDS A SERIOUS ASS WHIPPING. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS CAR BECAUSE I FEEL AS THOUGH I'VE BEEN DEALT A BAD HAND AND SOMETING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
