Turn signals won't work intermittently.

I have had the brakes and rotors replaced twice since buying the car in April of 2001. I took the car to jim butler Chevrolet for the turn signal/flasher problem which was later recalled and I was reimbursed. I took it to don darr Chevy which fixed a faulty switch operating the air conditioner/switching to outside air. I had the car towed to dobbs when it would not start, they said it was the fuel pump and assembly module. Today, jim butler Chevrolet replaced the lock cylinder and ignition switch because of the theft system light and the car not starting.but was unable to find the cause of the daytime running lights not working. Oh! but they noticed a recall on the hazard lights and replaced it. They were the one who replaced it the first time. I also told them of the over crank/grinding noise after the car is started, happens occasionally. They could not duplicate, so no repair. I am not happy with this car or Chevy because of all the problems and the expense it has caused and cost me. I used to hold Chevrolet in high regard, but can no longer recommend anyone owning one.

The turn signals stop working at times. You never know when you get into the car whether they will work or not. There must be something wrong with the flasher or something. I have seen other complaints about this on the Malibu on the internet.

Turn signals on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu quit working at unpredictable times. Thru trial and error, discovered that by turning on hazard flashers and then off, that turn signals would then work. Contacted dealer, and was told " that is a common problem, most likely hazard switch". when next in for service, (June 17, 2003) had problem checked, and hazard switch was replaced, at a cost of $119.50. If this is a "common problem "(as I see it is by a number of service bulletins and defect investigations on NHTSA web site) and apparrently a known defect, it should be covered by a recall, or "unwritten extended warranty".

Turning light has failed due to an an electrical short.
- Pocono Lake, PA, USA
Intermittent or total failure of exterior turn signal lights and the instrument panel turn signal indicator lights on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu. Sometimes turning on the hazard lights a few times will restart the turn signals. Replacing the fuse does not fix the problem.
- Stone Mountain, GA, USA
The turn signals fail on vehicle. You will go to change lanes, they will be working then they stop working. I contacted miller Chevrolet who said they were unaware of any problems. I then contacted phalen Chevrolet who stated there have been multiple hazard switch failures causing this problem but no one knew why. This is a very dangerous condition for a lot of cars on the street to have, and may be a item that should be repaired under recall before there are some deaths.
