About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The consumer states that on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu the cruise control was still active even when the driver had his foot on the brake. The switch on the steering wheel was turned off and the cruise was still activating and speeding the car up. The consumer put his foot on the brakes several times trying to get the car to stop. The consumer finally was able to get the car to stop, but he had to put the car into neutral. The car had to be turned off completely. It set for about 5 minutes and then vehicle restarted. The car sat for a few minutes and then the car was back to normal. The consumer called the dealership and checked to see if there were any problems with the car, and the dealership had not ever heard of this happening before. The manufacturer has not been contacted at this point. The speed was 65 mph and that was with the driver's foot on the brake.
