The anti-theft protection light illuminated on the instrument panel after the key was placed in the ignition. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to find a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 117,000.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the theft system in her vehicle would activate and cause the vehicle not to start. The failure worsened and recently began to occur every two days. The contact would have to place the key into the ignition and turn it so that it would reset and the theft deterrent light would dim. She took the vehicle to a service center, but they could not find any failures. The manufacturer advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer. The current mileage was approximately 53,450 and failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
