This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chevrolet dealer.
Loud and annoying. Distracting to the driver and annoying for all passengers in vehicle especially when listening to radio. Driver gets aggravated and anxiety is increased. Very dangerous indeed. I think there should be recall and problem fixed immediately at no expense to owners.

The biggest, most annoying issue this car has (and has since a month after we've purchased it) is a persistent rattle near the windshield in the dash. We've replaced the wiper blades thinking it was a bad batch we put on with no change. Oddly enough, if we use washer fluid (or it rains) enough to coat the blades and lower windshield with liquid, it stops the rattle for about 45 minutes (I have a long commute, that is enough to last about half of the commute).

The rattle in my dash was driving me NUTS! Plus being embarassing when people rode with me. My car has done this since I bought it. It is the black trim piece on the outside of the car underneath the windshield wipers. It is only secure with plastic screws which do not tighten it down enough to keep it from vibrating when you reach higher speads. I bought 3M trim tape from AutoZone and put it underneath to stick it down. It works pretty good but there is still some vibration. This is the only solution I have found. Chevrolet needs to step it up!

There was an annoying rattle coming from my dash at 40 mph or more, especially when heading up the bridge over to Duluth. I had my car in to my dealer 3 times and they could not replicate the problem. I pleaded with the mechanic to drive up the bridge and punch it. Sure enough, he figured it out. It was a warped cowl and was replaced free of charge under the manufacturer warranty. Great job Larson Chevrolet!

This is definitely a problem with Chevy Malibu cars!!! It has been happening with my car for around 25k miles. I bought the car with just under 10k. I have had it to the dealership several times to fix the problem, but they can not replicate it. The noise seems to be coming from the dash near the center, towards the right side. It happens only when over speeds of 40mph and happens most often when the wind is dead on (headwind). HELP!

Caulked plastic cowling to base of windshield in the area below the windshield wipers. The plastic cowling rattles when driving and it sounds like its coming from the dash on passenger side. It's not the dash only the plastic cowling vibrating against the windshield.

This car most definitely makes a rattling noise when turning on the blower, or when going at a relatively high rate of speed.n I am still covered under warranty, so I plan on going to the dealer and having them fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought the MAXX from a Ford dealer... Not really Chevy folks and probably won't be after this. We drove home (dealer was closed when we left with our new used car) about 25 min and thought that the noise we were hearing was from the windshield wipers. NOPE.. just some mysterious annoying noise under the dash, passenger side, that happens on especially windy days, or when we're at speeds over 50-55mph. Not all the time either. Making it all the more annoying because we have no idea what is causing it.
Had the blades replaced just in case, since they were Motorcraft and not very good on the used car. Still wasn't a wiper issue. Any suggestions out there?

Major rattling of dash at highway speeds started after 30k miles in my Malibu.

I have been satisfied with the car overall but there have been a few problems. I was hearing a rattling noise in the dash and could not figure out what it was. When I took it to the dealer I got the "could not duplicate the noise" crap (I'm sure that if I was paying out of my pocket they would of duplicated the noise). After the third time of this I rode with the technician and lo and behold they heard the noise before we got a block down the road. They stated it that it was a loose piece on the outside of the windshield, long story short they removed the piece and then re glued it down. No more noise.

when i went over 40mph the dash started to rattle.

It does not matter whether the blower is on or off, but I have noticed that it occurs around 40 mph and if I turn the blower on full blast while it is rattling it will stop. I am thinking its maybe the seal across the bottom of the windshield causing the Buzzing/ rattling noise.

I can be driving down the road and there is some sort of a rattle behind the dash. It sounds like it is coming from the center. It seems to happen more often if the blower is on. The rattle only occurs while driving.

Update from Feb 15, 2011: Cowl panel was glued down, and rattle went away.

I HAVE A RATTLE NOISE IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DASH. NOT SURE WHAT TRIGGERS THE SOUND, BUT IT IS A PAIN IN THE ASS!

Shortly after purchasing my vehicle, I noticed a rattling noise coming from the dash board. Anyone that I've had look at it simply told me that they didn't know what it was and that they'd have to take the dash apart. Umm, no thank you. Now, reading other complaints about this, I find out it's on the outside of the windshield. So, I looked at my car this morning and sure enough, right smack in the middle of the windshield, the rubber is unglued. All these years that I've put up with this and it's such an easy fix...definitely annoying!!!
