I used to get a warning to "service airbags" on the stereo display, and a chime, typically when I first started up the car. This started when I was living in southern Illinois. I drove with my backpack on the passenger seat, and occasionally that seat would chime for passenger to buckle up. The service air bag message would stay up for about 5 miles of driving, then would not illuminate again. Finally caught it in the act, got it to a dealership, where they told me their diagnostic came up with a passenger seat occupancy sensor was failing/had failed. The only remedy offered was to clear the computer, or consider a brand new passenger seat (which at that time exceeded the estimated blue book value). Clearing the computer of that trouble code lasted about a week. Couldn't offer more info such as if the airbag wouldn't deploy if needed, or if it was like a jack-in-the-box and might trip unnecessarily. That was almost 5 years ago, this summer it stopped advising me of the need for service. I'm not sure if the sensor finally gave out, or if some component(s) were damaged in a collision that ripped off the bumper this winter.

This vehicle has a safety design fault where the passenger pressence sensor(pps) defaults causing the airbag light to come on dissabling the whole whole airbag protection system. This car shares the same parts with the 2007 Saturn aura whose model has been safety recalled for te pps.

My 2007 Chevy ltz front driver seat broken shortly after warranty expired, I have to drive with the seat all the way down in low position for last 6-7 years or so. Chevy dealership says out of warranty and wants a huge amount to replace the seat rack etc. I do not know how a front driver seat breaks.. that is a safety hazard for myself and any one else in my car.. I first noticed it leaving to go to work one morning when I heard a pop while getting into my driver seat and trying to move it back.. the right side collapsed.. the auto seat adjust keep clicking and wont engage to raise the right side of seat so I have to drive with it all the way down to be even... chapman tempe dealership wants over 1000.. to replace it when I tried bringing it to them... they just claim its out of warranty nothing they can do... this nuts..

The drivers seat assembly broke. The seat shifted to the right and down. A weld broke on the seat assembly. This makes the car very unsafe to drive. Is there a recall on this" what do I do about this? is there anyone I can contact"

On Oct. 31st I was driving my car and turned on the seat heater. A few seconds later I noticed the seat got extremely hot so I quickly turned it off. When I got out of my car there was a hole in my seat where the heater is!

A squeaking sound is coming from the driver's side seat whenever I am sitting in the seat. The seat squeaks worse when the car is being driven. Upon examination it was discovered that the seat frame was broken at the point where the seat belt buckle anchors to the seat frame. The car has never been in an accident and is well maintained. This appears to be a common problem with Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn aura models: www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/printthread.php?T=26433&pp=40.

The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.

Service air bag warning goes on continually. Dealer says they will not repair as a safety problem but will charge me over $750 to repair. I feel this should be repaired by GM. Have been driving for over a year with this condition.

Service air bag light had come on. Took into shop they told me it was a notorious on the 2007 Malibu and not to worry about it...... still makes me feel very nervous to the fact what if I am driving down the highway and it blows out at me causing me to have a head on accident!!!! now on April 3, 2014 I was driving to work and my drivers seat broke! it totally just broke while I was driving! I mean wth I am a 5'7 female that weighs 155 lbs! I am the only one who drives my car! there should be no reason my seat broke! I know have to have the service station in town look at it and see what if anything can be done!!! I have seen other complaints on here also from other Malibu owners where their seats just broke also!!!! this could be deadly!!!! I am not happy at all and don't believe I will ever purchase another Chevrolet vehicle again in my life!!!! I contacted GM about my seat yesterday and the guy put me on hold contacted the nearest GM shop to me got the service manager on a 3 way call and hung up!! I explained my problem to him and he said that would be my dime.... he could certainly look at it for me but to replace the seat would be very costly to me! how the heck am I suppose to drive when my seat sits like a rocking chair!!!!

I own a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu lt, purchased new from a dealership in sylvania Ohio in September of 2007. Some time in 2012, the service air bag light began coming on intermittently, but was not consistently a problem. Later, the light indicating if a passenger was present would either not turn on when a passenger was present, or remain on after a passenger had exited the vehicle; this, too, was an inconsistent problem. Upon vehicle inspection by the dealership, I was told that the passenger presence senor was "malfunctioning", which indicates that the air bag system is not working properly. When asked what might cause this issue, I was told that "it just happens sometimes", which suggests to me there may be a manufacturing defect with the part.

While pulling out of a parking lot I felt my driver seat drop and made a noise. My seat was not in same position and when I attempted to reset the position I noticed that the entire left side of my seat was not secure any longer to the frame and when shifting weight or turning the vehicle the seat would force me to the right side. I am the only driver, back & forth to work, 43400 miles, ridiculous and dangerous to have this happen not to mention very costly (approx 1100.00). I have notified GM and asked for follow up on this, so far nothing. This is definitely a structural failure of some kind that GM needs to resolve.
