I drive a 2007 Malibu and the check engine light keeps coming on and the fuel gauge will drop to empty even though I know gas is in the car. Then it will slowly climb back up and then drop again.

I own a 2007 Chevy Malibu 2lt which have been having problems with the fuel sensor since I bought it. Have taken into dealership but nothing can be found wrong. Replaced fuel cap to see if that was problem but nothing changed. Fuel light stays on empty even with full tank of gas plus check engine light stays on. The only time it works is when I travel very long distances otherwise nothing. I am very disappointed with the way Chevy does their customers. I have done research on this and it seems to be an ongoing problem with their fuel system. I definitely think a recall should be done on this issue. Now I am starting to smell gas fumes in my car. I will never buy a Chevy auto again!

Fuel gauge and indicator light reflected that the gas level was empty. The engine light came on and remain on.
