MY 2008 Malibu is going through oil and there is no leaking not burning oil, already have had to replace the timing chain in my car, also have had a new catalytic converter put into the car, new water pump and put a lot of money into the car and need to add oil to my car everyday, I am being told I need to have my entire engine rebuilt already and I only have 124,000 miles on the car, do regular maintain work on the car and change the oil every 3000 miles. When we brought the car to a Chevy dealership they couldn't tell me what the problem was

Malibu LS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

We bought a 2008 Malibu used from a reputable dealer. Almost immediately I noticed excessive oil consumption, to the point where the vehicle was actually "bone dry". This has happened on three or four occasions and consistently. We took the vehicle to a reputable auto mechanic and he couldn't find a problem. I change the oil and oil filter myself religiously. It's also worth mentioning that not once have I ever found oil where the vehicle is parked: in our driveway, at work etc. Also recently I found out from my co-worker that he is having the same problem with his 2012 Malibu. We have owned several vehicles and have never seen anything like this.

Like many of you, my 07 5.3 GMC sierra sucks oil at nearly 2 qt. per 1000 miles. Been in the oil consumption test for just over a year and truck goes in Monday for the valve shield " solution". From what I've read, nothing is fixing the problem with the 5.3. Don't hold much hope for the future of owning this truck! GM has created an unreliable engine design that they can't fix and won't discontinue producing. I will have to look else where for my next truck.
