So the recall on the power steering system was replaced a year ago in 2015. Then again a week ago 12/30/15 the same problem again and then again they replaced the same parts. Again tonight 1/8/16 the power steering went out again but this time the car went into the ditch and now it's back at the dealer waiting to see what can be fixed with A LOT more damage done.
I have contacted the corporate office and they say that they don't know if they will cover to fix the MAJOR SAFETY problems with their cars. I will tell you what tho. I will be filling a lawsuit for there neglect to fix known problems with there products and for putting my life and my wife's life at risk for not fixing this problem to begin with. If there are any other people that have had this issue please, please, please start filing the lawsuits and then maybe General Motors will start to fix their products.

The power steering was gradually getting stiffer and stiffer. Eventually I was driving the car with no power steering. Never fixed it. Sold it.

Made a right turn going fairly slow and the electric power steering completely went out. Got a tow to the dealer, they told me they had to replace the entire steering column. They quoted me $1500. I called GM directly and told them that this issue is common in the Malibu's and that it was a safety risk. They covered the repair 100%. This tells me that GM is aware of the power steering issues and are not recalling them. I am thankful that they did that for me but it is still a safety issue. I was lucky I was not driving faster or I could have been ugly.

Power steering went out while traveling, very difficult to steer! I took my Malibu to the dealership where I purchased it and a steering module was apparently replaced. I picked up my car drove it a few miles and again lost power steering! Returned again, only to be told entire steering column needs to be replaced, to the tune of $600.00+ I am finding multiple complaints of this same problem! There needs to be a recall as I am livid that Chevy has not recalled this dangerous problem!

I have a 08 Chevy Malibu. Luckily I was in the parking lot at work when my traction light came on, the power steering words flashed on the speedometer, and my steering wheel locked up. I called the GM corporate office and they said my steering column module was replaced in 2012 but I don't think that is the same thing as power steering. And I saw where there was a recall on the power steering but they told me the recall was closed. Basically, they told me I would have to pay out of pocket because I was out of warranty but what does a warranty have to do with recalls on a faulty system?
