Malibu LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 150,000 miles

I purchased a 2011 Chevy Mailbu- all of a sudden the car would not start. It was determined that someone had been pulling the fuses out of the box & they the are cause. Order a new fuse box and the dealer installed the box. The car ran fine for a couple of days then once again it wouldn't start. I took it back to the dealer they had my car for four days doing testing and couldn't really determine what the issue is but the best guess it was the fuel injection was losing power & I needed a new one but couldn't really say for sure. Still having the same issues spent money on a fuse box & labor then turned around and paid more money for a test and still don't know what the problem is or what to do next. I am so beyond myself.

Malibu LTZ V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

2011 Malibu LTZ v6 50Kmi. So a few weeks ago the check engine light came on with a notice to service the ESC. Called the dealer and they told me it's the computer, it will "recalibrate" and the light will go off. It did; and then came back. I went through this several times. Finally the check engine light came on and stayed on, so made an appointment with the dealer. I took it in (yesterday, a Friday, 8:30AM) and after eating 3 hours they said it was misfiring, they didn't know why and gave me a loaner and sent me home.

[At home I checked on the web and indeed it's been reported in Malibu's and Impala's that the ESC warning comes on and the check engine light comes on when there's a misfire in the engine (the reports go back at least to GM models of 2008)! What does the ESC have to do with the engine!?] Anyway, I had to leave my car in the shop -- service tech said, "I'll call you in a couple of hours." Five hours later I called and they said, "We'll call you tomorrow." This is now Saturday morning; I got no call, so I called them and was told "It's still misfiring -- we still don't know why -- the head mechanic will be in on Monday." I asked if this would be covered under the 5yr 100,000 drive train warranty and was told, "We don't know." So I have a loaner for the weekend and I have to go to work on Monday with it and who knows when / if my car will be fixed.

I bought a new car and have kept up all the maintenance perfectly because I put a lot of miles on commuting and I don't want car issues. I had a 2001 Malibu that I kept for 100k until I found that the coolant was leaking into the engine oil (a GM design flaw)--then bought a Saturn (which has 80K and runs fine)--and then got this Malibu.

So the bottom line is the GM product that worked was discontinued and the one that has design flaws is still being built with yet new design flaws.
