While making a RH turn the steering wheel & column dropped into my lap. First I thought it was the adjusting mechanism. Not covered under warranty due to mileage. There are two bolts that hold the steering column up to the body. These bolts pass thru pot metal fittings (fuses) that are pressed and staked into the formed steel bracket which is mounted onto the column assembly. I am guessing that they are meant to separate in an accident to collapse the steering column in the event of an accident. Mine failed while making a turn out of a parking lot.

I could not find the part or even a part number. I removed the plastic covers under the dash to gain access. Next I removed the bolts that went thru the mechanical fuses. Put the pot metal fuses back into their original sockets with a little JB Weld and set with a hammer & punch.
