Malibu 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

I thank God for my Lifetime partner being with me, because I had no idea what I would have done. We where driving on a busy 2 lane road that don't have many pull off the road places. I thought he was pulling over, but I heard the engine raving like it was changing gear. Then our car just stopped, he got out and check under the hood to check to see what could be happening. He unplugged the battery cable. Got back in started up again, put in gear drove about 100 yards. I was looking at the speed decreasing, but the engine was raving like we should be doing 55mph but the speed decreased again. He did this two more times, because we needed to get off of this busy road (route 40). But this last time the engine light came on.

We turn on route 647, call for his brother for help to get our car home. Tow it home 1/20/18, then on 1/26/18 towed it to Fellers Chevrolet dealer for a diagnostic test. they call and said it was the transmission we will put a new one in for $4,000, but where is result from the test ~ no proof.

My Lifetime partner took our car to Southern Automotive for a second opinion. They confirmed that the transmission needed to be replace or rebuilt. To remind you this is a vehicle with less than 150,000 miles.

I am very distraught paying for a car and can't drive because of major problem like this without no indication of any malfunctions.

I praying that all dealers should at least give car buyers 1 year warranty as well as extended, this should be a apart of the deal.

Malibu LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,000 miles

I originally bought me Malibu in August 2013. At the time of purchase there was 22,000 miles on the car. I was the second owner. There is currently 83,000 miles on the odometer. On Christmas Day 2016 I had driven 150 miles to celebrate with my Mother. Just as I was entering town I stopped at a stop light but when I pushed accelerator I had NO power. Eventually the car did move but was "stuttering". I spent that evening in a Hotel and early the next morning drove to a repair shop. I was told that the transmission was blown and that I would require a new transmission. A cost of $5,000. I went ahead with the repair. Very disappointed in my vehicle. I just cannot imagine after paying $22,000 for the vehicle originally in 2013 that 4 years later I would have to invest in a new transmission. Just doesn't seem right that a transmission should fail after 60,000 miles and just 4 years of driving. I had expected more of Chevrolet. My driving record is that of an elderly person. I do not abuse a vehicle with lots of shifting because I live in an area where 99% of the time I am on Cruise at 70 miles per hour. I got taken!
