25-MAR-2019 - Took car in for 100,000 mile service that included changing all fluids and a new battery. The bill for that service was over $900. There had been no problems but battery was getting old, failed when tested, and there was some corrosion they needed to clean up.
12-APR-2019 - Random Service Airbag alarm started coming on. No codes showed up on either of my ODB code readers. This was only about 2 weeks and a little over 1000 miles after previous service. Dealer said code logged was U1070 00. This is one of the special codes that only dealer equipment will read. Service charge just to get that code was $114. Dealer offered two options to fix the problem. PPS Module may be failing. Cost to replace that module would be over $800. Second option was to take apart and clean airbag system wiring connections. Cost to do that would be around $200. We went with the less expensive option. The technician did find corrosion in the connectors. Cleaned and applied dielectric grease. Retested with no failure and cleared codes.
17-MAY-2019 - About 4 weeks and 2000 miles later, the Random Service Airbag alarm is back and worse than before. It's Friday evening so I will wait till Monday to take it back to the dealer. I suspect they will want to me to replace the PPS Module this time. After searching on-line it appears that problems with airbag system modules after a battery change are not uncommon with this car. This makes me wonder if the 100,000 mile service (battery replacement) caused this problem to appear. Prior to that service visit there had been zero problems of any kind with this car. I will update this rant with the diagnosis and additional cost to repair.
