Dealer opened the trunk to show us how to use air compressor. The compressor was sitting in a puddle of water. He opened the trunk to another Malibu, same problem. He told us to bring the car back tomorrow, and we did. Now it gets better, they gave us a loaner car, a Chevy Cruze 2014, only 4 miles on it. to use till they resolved the problem. We drove 1/4 mile up the road stopped the car for a second to let someone walk across the road, and the car (Cruze) stalled out. Just died. Another problem to watch for. The dealers mechanic found the leak coming from between the left rear side panel of the trunk where the spare battery is stored. He pulled apart the panel and found the leak coming from the rivet. He put tape on it for a temporary fix. They did notify Chevrolet about the problem. Dealer told us when their (Chevrolet) engineers come up with a solution to bring the car back for repair. They also cleaned the lining underneath the flap to the compartment, because when the back seats where down the car smelled of mildew. The battery and compressor where not damaged, but if left unnoticed, in time they would have. Tape is not the solution for a car we paid in full for. I don't know if this is a problem with other makes, and models. It is something to watch for. I hope they come up with a solution, because we have always been pretty lucky with our Chevy vehicles in the past. We do love this car, but don't like when the air compressor well turns into a water well. Then mold and mildew will set in. Compressor and battery will get ruined not just from the water, also the condensation. A piece of tape. Who would of thunk tape is covered under the warranty .Knock, knock America since when did we start using air compressors to repair a flat tire that has a big ass hole in it. Screw road side assistance. You are paying for the assistance in the long run, plus you have to buy a new tire .We asked for a tire in place of the compressor, they all tell you," well the tire will be a floater." Yeah, well my compressor is a floater. Rather have a tire sitting in my trunk well. Also a little extra weight helps with traction on slick roads. Everyone is focusing on all the new technologies that are onboard along the dashboard, but it seems all the basic less expensive parts that protect lives are being overlooked in the process. I do like having an extra battery, however I am starting to wonder. Our experience with the leak, and then the loaner car, and past reports on other models in the past. I know our problem isn't life threatening, but who wants this on a new car that was paid in full .Chevrolet, if there is any known problems with the Malibu 1LT or any other models for 2014, put your cards on the table and correct it ASAP!
