For three weeks I have been getting a "shift to park" error when I place car in park. It prevents me from fully turning car off and will not allow doors to lock. I have to play with the shifter to get the warning to come off. Last week it was in the shop at basil Chevrolet in depew, NY and they replaced the shift relay and it is still doing it. Today while driving down the highway my car suddenly showed the check engine light, the traction control light, slowed down to approximately 10-15 miles per hour and showed "reduced engine power" warning on the dashboard. I was in the middle of rush hour traffic. I was able to get into a parking lot but the car would not shut off and the "shift to park" warning showed. Finally got that error to go off and shut off car. Car was able to restart with only the engine light on. Stayed on for the next 35 miles. Just went back out at lunch time and now no lights and it was driving fine until I tried shutting off and the "shift to park" wouldn't go off no matter how much I tried to wiggle the handle. Car going back to dealer at 5pm.

Reduced engine power is a norm for these new Chevy Malibu's my engender is reducing power again. They charges me $345 last December 3018 to replace the accelerator pedal and this October 2019, it's doing the same thing. It will reduce speed on highway under 50 mph and I could have been hit by other cars if they did not notice.

Also, while attempting to park the vehicle, the gear shift indicator showed the vehicle in park; however, the 'shift into park' message appeared. The vehicle was taken to keller motors Inc (located at 1795 S perryville blvd, perryville, mo 63775, (573) 547-1002) where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000. The VIN was not available.

Having issues with transmission (hard shifting, not going into gear, not going into park). This started within a few thousand miles of owning the car. The power steering also goes out at random times. The car gets significantly harder to steer, or turn. Happens when lane departure is turned off as well. Also the adaptive cruise as constantly failing. Almost like the camera just stops working, and the entire system shuts down, or it says its still engaged and cant see the cars in front slowing down. Sometimes the heads up display alert doesn't even go off when it should. Not sure if this is an electrical issue, or each individual system has problems. Car has been at the dealer about 6 times now with the same issues. They currently have the car, and have had it for about 25 days now. Always the same outcome... "we don't know how to fix it". they even had a specialist come in and reprogram the transmission to try to "fix the problem". it hasn't fixed the problem yet. Transmission issues usually happen stationary, going from drive to park, sometimes you will get a loud and very hard shift into gear, sometimes it says its in drive or reverse, you take your foot off the brake, and tap on the gas and nothing happens. It acts as if its still in park. It would also say "shift to park" after you already have and wont let you turn off the car, until it registers you in "park". as for the adaptive cruise, it happens while in motion. Its gotten to the point where I cant even use it anymore. It may work for 3 miles, then completely shut down. Steering issue happens whenever it feels like it. Sometimes while parked, sometimes while driving. Doesn't seem to matter speed wise.

When attempting to park the vehicle, the instrument panel stated that the gear shift must be placed in the park position, even though the gear was already in the park position. The contact stated that the gear shift had to be jiggled or changed into another gear various times before the instrument panel displayed that the shift was in park. The vehicle was taken to koons clarksville Chevrolet Buick GMC (12421 auto dr, clarksville, md 21029, 410-988-9522) where it was diagnosed that the shifter assembly was damaged. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-541350439. The failure mileage was 38,680. GM stated the malfunction would not be covered even though it is a safety issue and power train issue and should be under warranty.

On Saturday, June 29th, 2019 approximately at 12:30 pm my family's 2017 Chevrolet Malibu was in motion in a major interstate (I-75) and the traffic started slowing down, I pressed the brake pedal to slow down and the pedal became very hard to brake and having to swerve to the side of the right side of the road to avoid a collision with the vehicle in front of me. The vehicle's message board read "engine power reduced". I also received an email message from on-star stating that an issue with the engine and transmission system was detected. The vehicle was taken to victory lane Chevrolet in fort myers, Florida, and the service technician told us that the issue had nothing to do with the engine or transmission as the vehicle message stated, but a problem with the braking system's vacuum. This could have been a really bad accident and hope that this information can help avoid any problems to anybody. We are still worry about driving this vehicle, since we are becoming aware that this is an issue that seems to be repeating itself to many other owners of the same vehicle and model as our Malibu in the United States and Canada.

I bought this car August 2017. When I put my car into park it states that it need to "shift to park" even though it is park. It happened once and then after that it was like almost every time I park my car. When I turn the car off is when the alert happens, then you have to restart the car and take out of gear and try again. It happens up to 4 times before it finally works. It is like you have to jam it into park to make it realize it is in park. Taking into the dealer to have it looked at on 06/27/19. Hopefully it will get fixed. To new of a car to have issues this early. Not a happy camper at all!!!!

I have a recurring emission issue diagnostic test code P2097 General Motors has admitting to not knowing what is wrong with my vehicle. I purchased the vehicle brand new the emission issue is ongoing recurring and my vehicle is up for state inspection for which it will not pass, this issue began at mile 3007 I've owned the car for less than 2 years. The vehicle came without air conditioning for which it was equipped that issue begin at mile 598. I have had multiple systems issues. I have lost my job over this car this issue has not been corrected with several attempts to repair it. I want General Motors to repurchase the vehicle with no usage being charged. This has been an issue that is caused my personal life and my professional life severe distress. I literally have lost everything after having lost my job over this defective vehicle. The vehicle had an accelerator pedal assembly replaced which prior to that my car was going into limp mode / safe mode constantly. This is an issue General Motors is aware of and has continued to sell this model vehicle with its known defects which in my opinion is extremely dangerous given the resulting characteristics the car displays once going into reduced engine power / limp mode this would occur while driving on the highway early morning late night hours I would have to pull over unexpectedly and suddenly, unhook my battery terminals and reset the computer manually. It would happen on side streets, on main roads, sitting in rush hour traffic, etc. At one point my car began displaying characteristics of losing power steering, engaging the auto stop/start function and not re-engaging the vehicle upon acceleration for which it was intended. I lost power steering in a turn one time and almost crashed in brookline Massachusetts a heavily travelled pedestrian area

In addition, the vehicle stalled and the transmission was repaired three times. Biggers Chevrolet (1385 E Chicago St, elgin, il 60120, (847) 742-9000) made the repairs under warranty. The accelerator pedal failure recurred and the vehicle was currently back at the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number [xxx]. the contact was informed that a senior adviser from the manufacturer would call back within two days. The failure mileage was 50,522. Consumer stated the engine light has been fixed multiple times and transmission. The accelerator has been replaced 4 times as well. Door panels came off, carpet came up, trim by rear shaft came up. The car was surrendered to jerry biggers. The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact noticed water entering the vehicle and the interior of the vehicle was wet. The vehicle was taken to autonation Chevrolet northpoint (2175 mansell rd, alpharetta, ga 30009, (678) 601-2485) where it was diagnosed that water was entering the vehicle from the rear tail lights and the dome light inside the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired, but the moisture caused the windows to fog. The vehicle was taken back to autonation Chevrolet northpoint, but the cause of the failure was undetermined. In addition, the gear shifter failed to engage in park and the contact had to force the shifter into park. In addition, there was an abnormal noise coming from the gear shifter. While the vehicle was at the dealer, the technician replaced the instrument cluster with a 2018 part that was not compatible with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 145,300.

Shift to park warning appears on dashboard after vehicle has been placed in park and power button is pushed. The shift to park message prevents the vehicle from shutting off. Vehicle only had 37,324 miles the first time it occurred. I pushed shifter forward and vehicle shut off. The issue happened once more on the same day then stopped for about two weeks before it did it again and took more than just pushing on shifter to allow vehicle to shut off. I took the vehicle to a Chevy dealer which was out of the bumper to bumper warranty to be told this is a problem they have seen before. I paid for the work to be completed but also conducted research and found on a Chevy forum this is a known issue. If that is the case the safety feature of not allowing you to shut off your vehicle if not in park is drastically compromised when these controls become faulty. Since Chevy is aware of the issue with their shifter control switches they should be held accountable to replace them with a shifter that is not known to have issues as this could become a safety issue for individuals who do not have the $700 to fix the problem. Back in the 1st week of January 2019 I experienced the first major issue. While I was driving to work on the highway traveling at 65 mph the cars check engine light went on as well as the traction control. The vehicle immediately sent a message on my dashboard that said "reduce engine power" and the car jerked and the speed drastically dropped from 65mph to about 20mph. I was unable to accelerate and was luckily able to drive to an emergency lane while cars and semi trucks were behind me and almost hit me. I turned the car off and then back on again and the engine light remained on, but I was able to safely get to a Chevy dealership. The dealership ran diagnostics on it and they determined it was a faulty gas throttle pedal and sensor. The vehicle was in the shop for a total of two weeks, due to them being out on the parts. I paid over 500 dollars for the repair. Less than a week later I was merging on to a highway to go to work again. As I was merging on the engine light went on and the message saying "reduced engine power" came on again. I lost the ability to accelerated and pulled over. I then turned my car on and off again. The engine light remained lit and the "reduce engine power" message remained on this time. I was able to accelerate to a max of 35 mph this time. I returned the vehicle to the same Chevy dealership. They ran diagnostics on it and this time they stated it could have been due to the cold weather and said a oil change might help. The oil was changed on the vehicle and then the called saying the vehicle was running very rough when they started it. They also then stated that there was condensation in the radiator from the coolant. They are still waiting for parts and the vehicle has been there almost three weeks. Total time in the shop was 5 weeks out of 6 weeks.
