Malibu LT 1.5L Turbo 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,801 miles

For my 2017 Malibu LT, this is the second time (9/19/24) that the "shift to park issue" has happened at 38.801 miles. First time was 4/ /09/21 at 19,424 miles with repair cost of $232 -- no charge for diagnosis.

Second time, 3 years later 9/19/24, I was charged for $150 diagnosis plus tax, labor & parts for total of $536 more than double the cost of the first repair. There should be a RECALL on this problem since it involves defective parts. GM should bear the repair costs not the consumer!

Malibu LT 1.5L Turbo 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 19,424 miles

My 2017 Malibu LT had only 19,424 miles on it when 'shift to park' issue occurred on 4/9/2021 -- out of warranty.

Since this appears to be a widespread problem, this should be covered under a GM RECALL.

Malibu LT 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 28,000 miles

This is a recall issue and should not be a charge for it by customer.

This is a faulty design and there should be service bulletins.

To get it fixed need to contatct NHTSA to force the issue to be repaired.

Malibu LT 1.5L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

This is an ongoing issue with this Malibu. I have to tap the shifter to tell the car it is in park.

Malibu LT 1.5L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

Now tapping the shifter does not help. If I press the shifter button enough times, it will finally shut off. Since this is a issue with pretty much EVERY Malibu, it’s time GM gets their s*** together and recalls and fixes the problem. I literally cannot afford a new transmission for a faulty bendy piece of metal that they need to get taken care of. Good grief.

This continues to happen with this car. How long before I jack up the shifter?!?

Malibu LX Turbo 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

3 months and 6000 miles out of the factory warranty and the shift to park error message comes up. Shows a recall for select 2016-2017 Malibu cars but not our specific vin. So instead of the factory covering in, we had to shell out $250 for our extended warranty deductible to have this fixed and the passenger rear window leaking water. Highly disappointed in the car and dealership for not trying to get this fixed under warranty or recall

Malibu LS 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,500 miles

For about a week now every time I put my car in park then press the button to cut the car off, I get an error message saying shift to park and the car will not cut off and horn beeps. Chevy says my warranty is out and power train warranty wont cover this. This is ridiculous I've seen several issues of this with other people and don't understand why there isn't a recall. Who wants to sit outside in their car after work for 30 minutes trying to get their car to cut off? I need a solution ASAP

Malibu

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

2017 Malibu with 5,000 miles, had an issue with turning my car off. on dashboard It said shift to park when it was already on park. I had to push it so hard so it can turn off. It was a hassle I took it to the dealer. It was fixed at last, some cables were replace. I wasn't charged because of the warranty it still had.
