Malibu Maxx LT 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I have waited 3 years for a recall for my steering problem which started 08/2012 with 75,000 miles. On 03/13/2015 I took my car in for recall # 14116 with 95,200 miles. The fix failed completely. On 07/07/2015 with 98,800 miles returned to the Chev. dealer for a diagnostic which cost me $108.00. Received a call from dealer after road test and diagnostic could not find a problem.

Next day I took the mechanic for a test drive and he saw the problem. Alert chimes, power steering displayed on the DIC and loss of power steering. After talking with Chevrolet tech support there best guess was a failing power steering control module and wanted $650.. plus the $108.00 I paid for the diagnostic with no guarantee that it would fix the problem, may need other repairs. I declined.

I did more reach and found technical service bulletin # 10183A. special coverage program. 10 years or 150,000 miles warranty on the steering column assembly. Returned to dealer ship on 07/13/2015, 98,800 miles and had steering column replaced under the warranty. NO CHANGE, the problem still exist. More reach found all vehicles that have had recall # 14116 done failed to work. 99% were told by the Chev dealer ship like me that the power steering control module failing. The control module needs to be on the recall parts list. Have contacted Chevrolet customer assistance center no reply. We know what I would like to tell them. NHTSA needs to do something I can't wait another 10 years.

GM is a poor product! I will NEVER buy another! I say that as someone who wants to drive an American made car. I have had nothing but problems with the steering of this car! From the annoying nocks heard every time you turn to the extremely deadly lock-ups that have nearly ended my life on two occasions! This is a severe problem that I see is experienced by many others than just myself. GM SHOULD NOT IN BUSINESS IF THEY CAN ONLY BUILD DEATHTRAPS. THIS IS WHAT THE AMERICAN TAX PAYER BAILED OUT! I beg you all, do not buy a GM automobile. Perhaps Ford. Do your homework.
