Monte Carlo LS 3.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

The traction control and ABS light on my 01 Monte Carlo LS keeps coming on here and there. Sometimes it won't come on at all but other times especially if it's raining or if I hit a big bump it seems to come on automatically. I don't whats up with it if I need a sensor, new wheel hub or what, someone help.

These lights are starting to piss me off. I just got the car in Feb. and I have a 6 month warranty and I don't know if this problem would be covered. If someone could help me out on price or parts or tell me how to do it myself I would appreciate it. Thanks

Monte Carlo SS 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

The issue I am having NOW is that the Traction Light is turning off and on when I shift from park to drive, of course, on it's own and there seems to be a grinding noise/sound. I am not too sure if it's the transmission cause it continues to operate fine and shift through all gears. I have spoke to other owners with the same issue with the 2001 Monte Carlo SS and they claim they replace some kind of electrical component and it continues to do the same thing after a certain amount time. It never ends.....GM will not claim responsibility for most of these issues reported! Someone please let know if there is a solution for this fix....thanks!!!

ABS/Traction control light is on. Have had new hubs put on but problem persists..it is at the mechanic now but they cannot figure out what is wrong. Car is not driveable and will not pass a safety inspection. No solution in sight.

Monte Carlo SS 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 153,000 miles

As with all the other lucky owners of the famous ABS system failures from GM I am on my second set of front hub bearings and can only wonder what dumbass engineer as GM designed this setup. Well, on the bright side, I think I've confirmed it's not the actual hub bearings at all!! It's the generic wiring setup that GM used to pigtail from the firewall down to each axle. Overall, this is an exceptionally nice riding car, the interior layout is nice, but when GM outsourced their electrical components supplier, well, let's just say the walk and chew gum theory came into play.

hi ho, hi ho...off to the dealer we go ............again! now the tractiion control light comes on intermittently and abs tries to engage for no reason....web blogs say either abs harness (gm has tech bulletin) Took GM 3 years to figure out it was 1.5 ft too long and frays on the tie rods or the wheel speed sensor. Since I've had both hubs replaced this year you'd think someone should have noticed. I only hope when my brakes fail a GM exec is crossing in front of my car
