I had a minor accident when I hit an area that was made of some sort of cement or decorative bricks that was very poorly designed, sloping from the top & extending outwards towards the ground, it was also blocking the view of oncoming traffic. As I pulled out of the area my right tire got caught & wedged onto these bricks under my tire & into the under carriage of my car, the right door was actually shoved upwards..I tried to get unstuck by putting my car in reverse & drive but It was completely stuck because the material was wedged somewhere under my car.
In Addition, my car was knocked completely out of alignment as my steering wheel was no longer in anywhere near the correct position, The car pulled to the right so bad you could not even drive it at all. . Chevy Monte Carlo's are very low profile cars, mere inches from the ground, not much clearance space. .So, this is just the BEGINNING" of my most unfortunate ' NIGHTMARE"!
My car was towed to Glidden Auto Body (Bangor, Maine) a well respected shop that i trusted. I received a call from one of their workers and was told, 'You are not going to believe this nor are you going to be happy". I was then contacted by a 'progressive Insurance adjuster/ agent whereas I had FULL COVERAGE for my vehicle. I was told that my car was 'TOTALED" . He told my that my car had 'rusted from the inside out', that the Rocker panels were 'gone', the car was un-inspectable, & that here is a check for $2800.
I Paid $23,039.00 plus interest for this vehicle in 2001. it had 17 miles on it when I bought it. I had the car professionally cleaned once a year. Polished, waxed, buffed, etc. There was not ONE SPOT of rust to be seen on the outside of my car. I was told by the Insurance agent that I could have the car if i wanted it but they were not going to fix it because it was unfix able. could not be inspected therefore could not be insurance not registered in my state which is the law. it has to be all of the former or you will get fines & loss of license if you do not comply. I feel that i was 'RIPPED OFF" very badly.
My car had less than 80,000 miles on it. The motor worked 'top-notch'. I took immaculate care of that car. My tires & rims cost me over $2000. I kept up on all maintenance work. The car never broke down on me not once. Although i did have some concerning issues with the vehicle that were under recall which I address & took care of immediately,. I wish i had gotten an attorney at the time. I feel that this is just not fair or right at all. I feel both 'robbed by my Insurance company for being forced to sign over my car & accept a mere pittance of the true value & money I had spent on the car.
I feel that the manufacturer of this car is also at fault. The car should not have rusted out like that making it completely useless if the insurance agent was telling me the truth. If I have any recourse i intend to pursue it. Now I have no car, live miles from any businesses, Dr's medical care (I have medical issues that must be taken care off), I am completely isolated, I am basically F*#@ked. I have since become disabled due to the medical problems, the severe stress of dealing with this unwanted , undeserved problem has caused more health problems. No way to get around. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thank You, J.B.
