My car was parked for 3 days under my car port. I went to start my car to put it in my garage. I turned the key and it sounded like my battery was dead. I turned the key and tried it again and the car went boom! Kids where playing outside, everybody ran for cover. Then about 20 people came over to see what happened. At the same time I saw smoke coming from under the hood. I opened the hood and saw fire coming from the engine cover. I pulled it off to find the fuel rail on fire. I grabbed the water hose and got the fire out. I was pissed off and it's the only car I have.
Monday I went to Napa to buy an intake. Come to find out they stock it do to very poor quality intakes from the dealership. The intake cost $139.00 plus fuel connecter $108.00 from filter to rail spark plug wire set $ 49.67. Then tried to start the car, sounded like the battery was dead again. Was afraid to try and start car but I did anyway, to find out it won't start. It did for few seconds but won't start and that's where I am now. Don't have money to keep putting into it and not sure what other damage was done.

The intake manifold exploded in my Monte Carlo, blowing a disc in my neck, which now has been replaced with an artificial one. I have now had a disability for eight months and am still undergoing treatments! I could have been killed and my kids saw the whole thing!!!
I have just learned that there was a defect investgation,on the 2001 monte carlos FPR's . I hope this is taken care of soon. It has turned my life upside down and I live with chronic pain. I nor my mother in-law never recieved a notice of the recall. And my daughter owned the same kind and same year car, and neither would ever start!!! 2001 monte carlo ss.

my battery suddenly did not have a charge. I decided to jump the vehicle and after a few minutes of charging, the lights were on but the engine did not turn over. After a few more minutes we turned the key again and then BOOM, sounded like a shotgun and brought the neighbors out. My intake valve and oil cap were laying on the ground in front of the car after hitting the open hood. There was a a cloud of smoke and that was it. This has just happened, so I have not explored my options yet. I wanted to share my experience with the other though. If anyone has any suggestions please share.

My car exploded while starting. The engine tried to start and the made a loud boom and sounded liked a bomb fell on top of me. Upon popping the hood, we saw pieces of the plastic intake manifold everywhere. You could actually see a large hole and look directly into the intake manifold. It was very scary and I actually thought my car was shot by a rocket missile. After a few chamomile tea's, I relaxed a little and figured out what I needed to fix it. I purchased a new intake on eBay for $100 and started the repair. While I was reading up on it, I found that this happens because of the fuel pump pressure regulator failing and the regulator is the actual culprit. I found instructions online and ended up buying a new pressure regulator and al new tune up parts. I put it together and started it up and it worked fine. Thank god for the internet and hopefully this will help someone else who gets extremely freaked out when their engine seems like it explodes.
