I purchased a beautiful 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo back in 2005. It was a certified used vehicle with 21,000 miles. Paid 1500 for extended warranty. Around 30,000 miles i had the lower intake manifold gasket replaced. At 53,546 i had lower intake manifold gasket replaced again. Now at 66,200 LIM gasket needs replacing again. The first two repairs were covered by warranty. The cost of repair is $1200-1500, which is now not under warranty. Of course the cost is a factor but more important is the frequency of the problem. It's apparent there's a defect in this area of the 3.4L V6. I am 57 yrs old and love American cars.GM and the rest the American car makers own up to your mistakes or suffer the consequences. Need a Bail Out?

From what I have heard and researched online this is fairly common around 60,000 miles. I'm pretty particular when it comes to my vehicles so I guess it held up pretty well. Still a nice chuck of change to fix though.

I'm not sure how long this problem had been going on. My car's heater coil drained into the floorboard of my car causing alarm. It was only when I went to have the heater coil replaced that I learned the condition of my cooling system. I have learned that this has been a SERIOUS problem with GM vehicles. I was never notified, but learned today that there has been a class action lawsuit that was filed and settled and I was never notified. These conditions should be notified by GM so that it does not cause a breakdown.
