I've only had this car for 3 years and all the gauges work one day and not the next. My temperature gauge was the first to act up, one day its past 260 the next its normal, then my speed odometer starting acting up, one day said I was going 150, so I went by my tach to know my real speed, then it started working normal and now it doesn't. Now my tach is completely screwed up, stuck between the 6 and 7. And the next to go was the gas gauge, but 2 days later they all work except the tach! I'm really hating this car and ALL the problems I'm having with it!

On 10/12/10 I was driving home, down route 7, at night. All of a sudden I thought my car was accelerating, and for a brief second it scared me. Then I realized something was wrong with the speedometer. It kept climbing until the needle was pointing south on the neutral (N). I came to find out that there are alot of complaints with the cluster panel on the Monte Carlos.If your lucky to still be under warranty they will fix it. But my car was just turning 4 yrs. old. I bought it the end of 2006, but it was brand new. Chevy knows there is a problem with the cluster panels, but ignores the problem. There should be a recall on the Monte Carlo, before some one is killed. My car only had 19,711 miles on it. They have recalled trucks for the same problem. I will never own a Chevy again, as I always was a faithful Chevy owner.I still have the Camaro, with under 21,000 mls. on it, but it's only a show car. I filled a complaint with the BBB, but they said my car was old, just like Chevy said. It still looked brand new! It was the LT, leather and heated seats, it had every thing the SS had, except for the big engine and sun roof. Sticker price was close to 29,000. I had traded my older Monte Carlo in on it. Dealership no longer in business. I think it's wrong that people are having to pay to get this problem solved, when Chevy should be doing it.

I was driving my car at night and about 100 miles from home. The speedometer and the tachometer went haywire. Finally, the speedometer dropped to zero, I guess I was driving around 60 mph. I called Chevrolet and the representative told me to drive it in and let them look at it but they would not cover it. I have been told the circuit board is about $600 to replace. (Coincidentally, GM alledgedly settled with Delphi for millions for the same part for defective circuit boards for their truck line. GM issued a recall for the GM trucks but will not issued a recall for the automotibles. I also reported this to National Safety Board - as usual no response. There are many complaints on the internet. I guess several people will have to get killed before Chevrolet will fix the problem.) I turned the engine off and restarted the car and the problem went away. It has recurred several times since then.
