There have been several issues with the intermediate steering shaft and don't know how much of a safety concern it is but I feel with the amount of people who have had problems with it that it is something that needs to be checked into possible recall. I have had to have mine replaced at only 26,000 miles because from my understanding it is due to a poor design.

I have learned that when my defrost is on and I hit a water puddle my power steering goes out for about 30 seconds at a time. I use the defrost to keep my windows from fogging up in the rain. Took me a while to figure out if I turn off the defrost it wouldn't happen. But then my windows fog up! took it to my Chevy dealership and they told me that was normal! I work on cars for a living. That is dangerous! I'm sure GM knows about this and maybe even some pal have died from this happening" giving what is going on now with GM can you please make them fix this now please"

Power steering assist fails at slow speeds making parking difficult and turning the wheel while stopped difficult. Steering wheel binds and is resistant when this happens, and is most notable after vehicle is hot and has reached temperature. Some clatter noise occurs when this happens. I did complain to the dealer in detail while under warranty, but was told that nothing was found. Warranty has since expired, and I suspect that this problem either has no solution or would not be handled with a satisfactory outcome. I have read that others have experienced this type of failure with the 2007 Monte Carlo, prompting me to notify you that this may be a wide spread safety issue affecting this model vehicle.
